Re: The evolution of Windows from its beginnings to date

Windows XP was fantastic for its time, but clearly, times have changed. Many of the companies who are still standardized for now on Windows XP really do have plans to move to Windows 7. I think Windows 7 is an extremely worthy upgrade.

Re: The evolution of Windows from its beginnings to date

By rejecting Vista, consumers and businesses told Microsoft they didn't want their operating system to wow them. They just wanted it to recede into the background, allowing them to get work done with a minimum of surprises.

Re: The evolution of Windows from its beginnings to date

but it is impossibles for the business and large compamies to change their setup at once from xp to win8 as it needs a large finance and extra staff training and most the business are still using windows xp they they will get through the win 8 at once and microsoft will not support the win xp after 2014

Re: The evolution of Windows from its beginnings to date

microsoft will continue to support xp as long as it has a large user base, most companies wont move to windows 8 because it offers no advantages over xp or win 7 at the moment

If you read some early posts in this thread it has been discussed that Windows XP expires in 2014. It will be no longer supported by Microsoft. This is an official report from MS. The businesses have already started upgrading to Win 7.

I am thinking about upgrading from xp to windows7 but what about performances ?
In the same machine, can i expect an improvement or not ?

Re: The evolution of Windows from its beginnings to date

I think upgrading from XP to Win 7 is a timely move but when you say performances, what do you really mean? There is no IE 9 for XP as IE9 is better than IE8. When XP stops getting updates from Microsoft in 2014, It will be more vulnerable to cyber attacks. If you are using XP for some daily life work using MS office then it should be ok but if you go online often, do banking and all sorts of stuff then better to be more secure and updated.

Depends on your machines spec, if its fairly new (within the last 2 years) then you shouldn't have any issues, it will never be as fast as XP but it also depends on what you use your pc for, gaming, wordprocessing etc? Windows vista onwards has a thing called windows experience which is a score based on your hardware and gives you an indication of how well it will run, you could check how your hardware will fare by going here:

                    windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/products/features/windows-experience-index

a higher number = better 'experience'

They said that before, they said xp would expire earlier when vista came out but because vista was crap they extended the life of XP. Businesses will only upgrade if they see a real benefit or start to phase it in when the natural life of a machine comes to an end, I dont think medium to small businesses will spend money in this climate to upgrade to win7 for no real benefits.

if we'd run the benchmarks on a less powerful PC, perhaps one with only 1GB of RAM, then it's possible that Windows XP would have fared better than it did here. But for even a fairly basic modern PC, Windows 7 delivers the best performance around. According to a survey the performance will be like this on similar specification eg 1GB PC
                        Scores
                        XP: 3.5 / 5

As windows 8 is new, there is not many people who have used the windows 8 os platform, and therfore dont have experience with it to talk about it here. But you are true, that windows 8 is a moderinized os as it is more integrated inn to the social community.

It's only with win 7 test utility
The real performance of 7 is worse than xp
Simple - 32 bit windows works much faster than 64 bit windows - 32 bit windows can handle up to 3 GB of Mem - win seven eats at least 1 gb just for it's lousy interface - so xp may work with more memory and it works faster
Maybe if you play 3d games and need DX11 you need to install win7. Or you are working with apps that needs a lot of mem. In this case win 7 64 bit wins, for xp 64 bit is not as good as win xp 32 bit. Nothing more good in it.
And now what we have - win 7 already died, replaced with win 8, but XP lives for those who understand
