i use pli jade, they have a great write up on how to set it up,so thats why i chose it. i will eventually try others but never gemini, the gemini team deliberately put the time bomb in their software to damage clone dream boxes, not the sort of people i want to associate with. if they can do it once they can do it again. just my view on the subject

I prefer Gemini for Enigma1 boxes, but it is a personnal feeling.
With recent clones, the time bomb is not working.

Are you sure? Have you tested it? To be honest I don't really know what the timebomb would do. Deleting the boot sector or what?

The bootloader will crashed.

For use with newer images, the mac adress must be change.

this is only possible with an Image witch the mac adress change.

I more or less understand how linux works and how I could change the MAC address. Are you saying if i change the MAC address to an original MAC address then It will work just fine and the timebomb wont go off?

HOW TO USE : 

ATTENTION : Don't forget to make a backup image ! 

1st Download FLASH WIZZARD and upload the modified firmware image "brainwave mac address changer.fw2" to dreambox 

2nd Reboot dreambox and then, connect using telnet (use dhcp, and find the assigned IP in the control panel). 
The login/password are the default credentials (root/dreambox). 

3rd execute the script calling it like this : 

/var/patchME XX XX XX XX XX XX 

The XX XX XX XX XX XX is the desired MAC ADDRESS. Do not use colons to separate the bytes. 
example: 

This is ok --> /var/patchME 00 09 34 01 AA 55 

This is not ok --> /var/patchME 00:09:34:01:AA:55 

Congratulations ! Mac address permanently changed. 

Feel free to upload your backup image.

I have a feeling Dream will find a new way to identify cloned boxes... But for now it's pretty awesome. Do you guys think Gemini is more stable than PLi?

pli patched image for clone dreambox seems to work good.
Anyway never use a original image but always a patched one.
An original dreambox image isn't working and can damage dreambox clone

Yes, I used several time original Gemini images on clones and I had never problem.
There is no sim card in those boxes and the detection is only based on the mac adress. The only thing you have to check is that the mac adress is not a blaklisted one (it was the case with the first clones). Recent clones have a mac adress which belong to the range allocated to Dream Multimedia for their business. They can't detect a clone anyway because the mac used in chinese clones is potentially a one already givent to an original box.
If you want to be sure and if you have some doubt on the mac adress you have, of course use a patched image

DM500Plus (ORIGINAL) and DM600 runs on simcard security verification as well.

Yes, only the new generation has a sim card. The DM500 (not the DM500+) has no.
