Re: The evolution of Windows from its beginnings to date

Maybe the PC is dying a little more with all those upgrade .
Microsoft is loosing the mobile battle, the game battle...
They will focus more on the xbox720 than the PC's world.

Windows 8 should be a nice visual update of 7 ,with touchpad fonctionality. But that's all.

Re: The evolution of Windows from its beginnings to date

I think Google is the natural successor to Microsoft. It has everything, internet controlled and a new operating system like Android leading the tablet PC market, which incidentally is the future that is already here. The PC will die in a short time, leaving only mobile devices, tactile and connections of all kinds, 4G, Wifi, DLNA, Bluetooth, HSPA, etc ...
Microsoft has not been agile, has left to conquer, has been very slow, lacking reflexes and that is paid.
All Microsoft operating systems are to be formatted after a while, they are unstable, are very malleable and perhaps slow.

Best regards.

Don't forget the corporate market. They still use microsoft products, like Office.
Google is a good challenger ,but many companies wont risk installing other OS that Windows.
And there is the mail services too.Google has some bad reviews about data protection and how they 'control' the privacy (like facebook).

My work is just in the process to change over from another system to Microsoft. Microsoft have offered its products to the workers on discounted prices to be installed on their home PC's. Great offer because I can get Microsoft Office Professional for under a tenner. Don't think any other companies will match this offer.

Don't forget Microsoft's Windows and Office are payment apps.
I you use Windows or Office suite in your company you will have to pay for them. A license for each connected pc. It is very expensive.
At the company I work for, Windows and Office have been changed for Linux and OpenOffice apps. in order to save money.
So I think Windows will be on so much time as private users want it, and apps. developers make programs for this platform.
But I think Win8 will be a "blooofffff" because is too late to gain the time lost against Android.
About privacy, Microsoft do the same, Windows O.S. is the most great spyware in the world. We all know it. That´s the truth.
Best regards.

Could this be the end of Microsoft?:D

Normally MS tries to get as much money as it can from consumers.

I think Microsoft will be absorbed by another company like Google in the near future, or perhaps simply disappear, unless they invent something really new and useful. But the market for tablet PCs, this really lost.

Best regards.

same here on my work: many thousend users: still using xp, will change to Win 7 (started this year, migration +/- until 2014).

yep, same offer here (believe 12,5 EUR for ms office pro) for home pc's of employees.

edit: @findeciclo: you can always move to another country and/or switch job :D

In my country there is no offers. Only news computers have installed MS Office Starter.

What is Office Starter 2010?
Microsoft Office Starter 2010 gives to personal users who buy computers preloaded the ability to perform the most common tasks and basic productivity without adjustments. Office Starter consists of Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 only, which are reduced functionality versions of Microsoft Word and Excel with advertising. Office Starter is available only as preloaded software on new computers with the exclusive option to upgrade to Office software packages at any time.

Office Starter is not trial software, you can continue using it as long as you need it. When you are ready to move to Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, Microsoft Outlook 2010 and the versatile functionality of a full Office version, upgrading is just a few clicks away.

Best regards.

Allways them can change to Linux, (Ubuntu, Citrix, etc...). In my company now we works with Citrix and a Windows emulator to run some apps or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Office have been changed for Open Office (freeware).
I know to make changes I.T. must work on, but after this little inversion, never will pay for use their PCs.
And about support, we only talk about updates, because rest of apps. will work fine, except new apps. designed for new O.S. so I suggest download all the apps. you can in order to have alternatives for the day microsoft will stop XP support.
Best regards.

Open Office was tested in my school but many formulas or schemes didnt work as well as in Office.
Windows will always have the benefit of being the OS with the guarentee to work .
Linux is a alternative. But driver support is in my opinion worse than in the windows os. I always have a friend who cannot install a soft or a hardware because of the driver.
Companies cannot take the risk to pass on hardware that they bought.
