    Re: Universal remote recommendation

My recommendation would be the Logitech Harmony range especially the mid-high range models been using these for around 10 years now and love them just setup an account on line and search for your device and upload it via USB lead no learning buttons but they are there if you need them and in all this time i have not found one item it does not have in its database.

So I guess, you will have to compromise unless you find a really incredible one (and probably expensive)!
You will never find a universal R.C. that can support all the functions of an original R.C..
For examble, my R.C. dont has the button EPG or Audio and I have to set them manually to some new buttons that I must remember each time which are they.
On the other hand, my R.C. has the color buttons (red, green, yellow, blue) , the ok button, menu and others as on my dreambox R.C..

The price of some logitech remotes are very very expensive! (+200€)
Is it reasonable to buy at this price ? I thought that those price were correct few years ago ,but nowadays it seems so far from reality when you can almost do this with an iphone.

This is precisely why I asked for some advice, there are some eye wateringly expensive universal remotes out there Can I really justify spending on a remote, about half of what I spent on a receiver?

One further question for kalpikos, have you tried controlling a PS3 or Xbox with the Silvercrest? I have heard that some remotes struggle with these?

Does that SilverCrest 10-in-1 Remote Control have a LEARN function/mode?
Than you can learn it other remote control IR Codes and save it to it's memory as you asign it to a button of your choice.

I don't have ps3 to say for sure if works or not, but I believe that it works
And this is because can clone every command from an alive RC.
You will not believe what I have done with it...
I have putted even some commands for my air condition system or to open/close my pc

                    @SatWaveDude
Yes mate, This RC has the learn function as you said and you can asign to it any button you want.
This is exactly what I have described above.

I forgot to say , that also has Macro function
This is very convinient when you want to open/close many devices together.

That one looks really cool with the touchscreen! How good is that touchscreen though? The last cheapish touchscreen device I had was terrible, very unresponsive, nothing like an iPhone screen for example.

I control with it all my devices:
dreambox, tv, dvd, stereo etc , you can control 10 devices.

You can put directly the right codes,
but in case that your device is not supported,
can be programmed manually from the other remote control.

I spent 8 euro to buy it and I'm very happy
because I have it almost 2 years without any problem.

I have seen similar remote controls like logitech harmony as @bokkie said
but the price is too high for me.

                              I just bought one too.
It seems to me that it has less range and sensitivity than the original remote control. Does anyone have a similar experience?

I agree with you , mate
It has less range and sensivity than many other original RC , but I think is somewhere in the middle range compared to others, because I saw it to win many RC..
For example, it's less sensitive that the original RC of my dreambox,
but compared to this of my sony tv is better.
Also better is compared to an rc from a LG dvd player and an old thomson tv.

Generally speaking, the sensivity of this rc is good and never puzzled me.
