    Universal remote recommendation

    Hi everyone,

I am toying with the idea of getting a universal remote to control all of my devices. They aren't cheap so I was just wondering if anyone out there had any advice or recommendations. Thanks in advance

I don't advise you to buy an univesal remonte control because is difficult to tune it for all your electronic devices.

What make and model remote are you using sideralgr? I was under the impression they were quite easy to setup?

The Harmony remote comes very highly recommended.

I use a universal remote control silvercrest from lidl.

I control with it all my devices:
dreambox, tv, dvd, stereo etc , you can control 10 devices.

You can put directly the right codes,
but in case that your device is not supported,
can be programmed manually from the other remote control.

I spent 8 euro to buy it and I'm very happy
because I have it almost 2 years without any problem.

I have seen similar remote controls like logitech harmony as @bokkie said
but the price is too high for me.

            I use a Tevion UFB 214.
Cheap, easy in handling, and very many functions.
            Can learn your old remotes.

Yes I've looked at those, my only trouble is deciding which one of the five or six Harmony models they do, haha

So how do you manually program or make these remotes learn your old ones? Is it a case of zapping your old remotes at the universal one and from there the new one learns all of the appropriate frequencies?

                hi purenirvana

My first thought was also a Harmony, but if you find something like @kalpikos said: absolutely worth the try. Most important I find is programmable buttons and the 'learning' possibility from not supported/known devices.

I've just been looking at the Silvercrest remotes pan1100, they do look like a bargain when compared to the cost of other universal remotes. The only trouble I'm having is that they seem to have a lot of models to pick from too! Kalpikos, do you have a model number somewhere on your remote to help me narrow things down a bit?

The only trouble with getting from lidl is you have to wait until they become
available and sometime you can not wait, they are not always in stock but I
do agree with you does the same job as the more expensive remote.

                      You are absolutely right mate
This remote control is not always in stock and you have to wait ultil they make it availaible.
They give it for sale 1-2 times per year, every year.
so, you have to wait for the right moment

There is no model, just "silvercrest - 10 in 1 remote control"

                      I was very lucky,
because I wanted a remote control for my dreambox, as the old didn't work ok,
and I found this R.C. in the web site of the store.
I bought first 2 pieces for 10E and after 3 months
another 2 pieces for 8E (discounts) and all work ok.

The learn method is very simple.
The old remote control must be close and looks straight the new,
start the learning from the menu and you hit the button you want to set.
In few seconds you must hit the button from the old r.c.
                      ...and you are ready

Ok, thank you for that information kalpikos. It is a bit strange how Lidl do their stock control so I've looked online. I think I might have found the right one on a well known auction website

Is yours black with a blue LCD display at the top and buttons that also illuminate in the same blue colour?

I must say, that is wonderful especially when the room is dark

Excellent! I'm going for it, I've found one for £12 on that well known auction website Compared to £60+ for the Logitechs it's a no brainer to give one a try as it seems wholly capable of doing the same things.

What Kalpikos said seems the best suggestion so far, but you must understand that there will always be some limited functionality with the buttons. One particular box may have a button such as an EPG button which a universal remote cannot recognise and emulate. So I guess, you will have to compromise unless you find a really incredible one (and probably expensive)!
