I have a 90cm and a 60cm. (No, I'm not crazy the previous owner left those up) The smaller one was an official UPC dish the bigger one was an old analog one. I'm gonna get another 90cm instead of the 60cm cause my Aunt has an old one that she doesn't even use. And I think I'm gonna get more lnbs and set them to as many sats as possible. Dunno what I'm gonna do when I move to the UK... No sats for a while I guess...

Big dishes was needed in past, when satellites has had a weak signal expecially on footprint borderlines. When satellite transmissions was analogics, a big dish and a receiver with adjustable treshold was made the difference. Expecially for ppl in Italy that wished to receive Swedish and Norvegian tv. At time TV3 Sweeden transmitting the best Italian football match in direct on sunday, at time wasn't italian's pay tv so there was just 2 way to watch football in direct, one was to steal signals from point to point transmissions used to transmit the event to tv studies, or to have a big dish to receive Thor and TeleX satellites (I've 1,20 mt motirized dish and I've used an Echostar LT 8700 at time with those I was able to recive nordic satellites). Are still used big dishes around 3 meters to receive the C band anyway. But now all satellites has strong signals, and the footprints are really small for providers that wanna protect their programs (like all UK bouquet Freesat) so you can receive all with a 90 cm dish if footprint cover your land, if you'ren't covered by it also installing a big dish you'll have no chances.

          Re: best dish

Satman is right, installing anything bigger than a 90cm dish is just simply not worth it. Most of the satellites here in Europe can be watched with a 90cm and nordic beams are just nordic beams... We don't really have a chance to watch them unless we move north...

Not all of satellit have a strong signal, Eutelsat W2 on 16E have very week signal, and if this year come new satelite it will still have a week signal becouse it is to close to 13E and 19.2E so if 16E have strong signal it will disturb this two very important or just more important sattelites.

I have one 85cm dish and when it rain litle stronger I dont have signal od 5 transponders, and all over EX-YU it is same problem signal is just not strong enough.

I tried to catch any of the beams from 23.5E with my 60cm and I couldn't... I think I'm gonna have to try to set it up on the 90cm one and use the 60cm for 1W and 4W... I hope those are strong enough.

I wish i had 120cm dish but to be honest I don't even know where I would put that. My balcony has a roof and walls so unless I mount something on the side of the walls I cannot put them enough far out to see more satellites. So far I could find every major central EU sats from 15W to 39E. I don't think I could go beyond 39E cause that almost faced the wall. How much are those wavewhatever dishes? Are they worth the price?

I've 2 dishes on my roof, one old 120 cm pointed to hotbird (second focus on Astra 19.2) and one 90 cm pointed to 1W (second focus on 5 East), when rains strong also with 120 cm I loose the signal, it works better then 90 cm of course but when rain is much no way to avoid signal looses. If you've interferences problems check your dish pointment and also LNB position, try to rotate it a bit into his case, 3 degree are enough to protect you by interfereces. You must receive well 16 east without interferences if dish is well setted.

If you don't have reception problems with your actual dish you don't need a 120 cm dish. The cost of this size is more then 50% then 1 meter dish price, this because the production now of this size is limited to few pieces. You need also to consider it needs a more strong pole because the 120 cm has more resistence on strong wind.

I have 2 dish first 85cm "no name" it is on motor, and second 90cm from Total TV placed by professional, and first dish loses signal when it is litle rain (not on all frequencis), and second loses signal when is litle-medium rain on some freq, and it is not just for me like that it is for all other users of 16E since satellite broke down 7mounth ago.

Please write me frequencies you've problems, I wanna check the signal on my dish, my 120 cm is motorized. From footprints the 16 east should be smilar to hot bird.

                            11095 H 27300 is very problematic.
16E is everything except similar to 13E

Most likely I'm not going to buy a 120cm dish, I don't really see the point of it when I can mostly receive everything I want with my 90cm and 60cm. I was considering getting a motor for the 90cm but I think I'll try to set my dishes up in a way that I can receive 4W, 1W, 4.8E, 9E, 13E, 19E, 23.5E. Probably that's all. Any which sats should be on which dish? I tried to set the 19E (60cm) with a second and third lnb to 13E and 23.5E but all I could get is the 13E. Dunno why I couldn't get 23.5E. The big one is at 4W and the second lnb on it is at 4.8E now. I could set that to 1W and then put up two other lnbs at 4W and 4.8E and probably even at 9E.

With dish pointed on 19,2 east you should to receive the 23 east too with other lnb, if you can't receive it just better the lnb position, shift from central lnb and vertical position too, I don't know in your country what is the reference satellite. Anyway try to move the lnb slowly on braket and also bit up and down, 4 degree are not criticals you should receive it also if with not so strong signal.
