So the dreambox fan isn't enough? It's been working for a while and it didn't get hot.
Do I need to use an additional fan?

external fan has better cooling, after some month or a year dm fan become noisy and begin to stuck.
kalpikos some protection from thunders excist but i heard it gives problems with internet to dm, not sure about that, never tested

I would stay with original fan as long as it doesn't become noisy.
Then replace with a good quality one that is supposed lo live longer.
I think one fan should be enough for a decent cooling ...

Dm800se is a very hot receiver and I wouldn't put in it a fanless heatsink.
Is very dangerous.
When the fan which now has the receiver become noisy, then must be changed with other having better quality.

Gigablue 800 is an example ... no noise at all, no fans to replace !
Of course, if it's something that doesn't come from factory, you have to give the right dimensions to heatsink to avoid overheating.

the point is that overheat kill the boxes. if you cool your box enough thats gone be fine, thats what i mentioned. im doing it for now taking of dm fan and replacing it with external usb fan. its always cool and works great. you must pay attention in your home voltage to be good, and keep attention to bad weather if you conect your box with lan cause thunders may harm it

Your pc maybe is working without problems, but don't forget that is a pc and has a lot much space to take fresh air.

Personally I would never risk my dreambox with a fanless heatsink.
It's very risky and I don't suggest to anyone.

The cost of buying a new fan is very low and the fitting is very easy.
The only bad thing is the noise of the fan, but I believe that newest fans are very silently.

an original noiseless pc fan has much longer life that the chiper chines fan chinese factory put in dreambox, so find one and imediately replace your noisy and glitching dm fan. it will cool better and will have better life

Of course there is a limit, you must have a 2.5 inch SATA Hard Drive in order to be installed in your box.
Also if you want to avoid problems, don't buy a HDD with 10.000 rpm because they have some problems with dreambox.
Buy a normal disk and will be ok.

Limit is about technology, i.e. sata version, power requirements, not capacity.

True, but I know some boxes which have problems with HDD's above 500GB
