@sucan Does the 500HD do Media via LAN from PC & NAS? Avi, Xvid, divx compatible?

Hi, I can try once streem from box to tablet and laptop via my wireless home network and the box can do it. Don't try playing on box anything from pc, but I have read that VLC player can be used. If it is true all formats handled by VLC can be played.

Have a look on the datasheets and make your own choice.
It depends on your needs and for shure the prize!

can quite agree with you malikawan, i have been in this hobby for about 8years now, nothing to a lot of other members here, must add very helpful members, but you have to watch as could be quite expensive as very good new boxes always being produced, teck spec moves very fast now.

Forums like this one are a great place to find and share information. Threads like this one are invaluable to both new and experienced users who are looking to broaden their horizons.

Looking at data sheets and comparing specs is never quite the same as first hand usage or getting information from someone who is actully using the product you have your eye on. I think I am not alone when I state that specs can be quite ambgious and claim features that when you buy and try find have serious limitations. E.G. Media playback as already discussed. A lot of boxes will play media but only on USB or attached HDD when what most of us are looking for in today's modern techno age is NAS/PC functionality not limited to streaming via VLC or other.

I'm sure most of us are used to PC based VLC but in the STB world there is a BIG difference. Take the DM800 as an example. You think wowee VLC Pugin but little do you realise the codecs you are used to having to play eveything known to man on your PC won't run on it. Then you have to mess around converting your media or reaquiring it in a format that will play. A big no no for those of us with established library's made up from years of collection.

The only box to date I have found come close to being the perfect STB/Media Player was the AZBox but it's inability to timeshift and PVR coupled with the fact that its interface sucked so bad, I gave up on it. Played everything I threw at it though and from anywhere without having to configure it or use a plugin. Sure I could have flashed Enigma 2 to it but then I would have been back to the DM800 scenario.

Maybe I have a dream that no current box can fully fulfil and perhaps
never will. Or maybe I'm just too demanding.

PS: I have not subbed anywhere since 1991. Shows how old I'm getting

I think the other required feature for a STB is wireless connectivity. Is there any comment on that ?

and that ist the reason why I've bought the DM800hd

For my interests I can make all what I want, the box is quite stable, the prize is ok if you buy a clone

and (this must pay attention) the box is quite circulated everywhere.

can agree with most, if myself i would go for the DM800hd also, as they seem to be the most popular box with plenty of support on many sites, the vu duos are fairly new but will they stand the test of time like all the dreams, i doubt it, but your big disicion, chose wisely.

Get youself a DM800se Sunray - linux.
If you want to spend less a jepssen mediabox st-4 hd - non linux.

In my experience till now DM800HD not support the high symbol rate which is quite painful

Then buy azbox since it supports Cccam as well.
I personally would always go for Dream multimedia.
800hd working since 2008 flawlessly !!!

Interesting replies Dm 800hd seems to have the major vote, still confused though, might wait a bit, but i am tempted by a clone se or clone VU duo but if I do thats it for a couple of years.

just like yoursef nml, i have to stretch my limitations, so more learning in my case required, things always keep popping up about various boxes which have not read so far.
when says dm box wireless does that mean no ethernet cable to moden/router box, more confused im not that hi tec.

I would say if you have a box and you can get it working keep it, no box will work for ever without the right updating and they all need the the same amount of updating,and why you would need a dual tuner to record something, while you watch something else seems a waste of time and money if you pay for a server.it will be repeated the same day, or the day after, and the day after that.
