Xbox 720

The new Microsoft console is going to change a little habits when you'll have to pay for it :
The next Xbox will reportedly cost $499, or $299 for customers who also buy a two-year Xbox Live Gold subscription for $10 per month.
Could the next Xbox be an always-online console? I certainly hope not. Between that concern and rumors of more draconian DRM, there's the looming possibility that the next console will be more locked-down than ever before. Annoying a loyal fan base is the last thing the next Xbox needs to do. There's always hope: Valve's Steam locks games to an account and generally requires online connectivity, but doesn't seem to annoy many people at all.
And I'm still wondering if it's a good strategy for microsoft to battle with sony and next ps4 console. They seems so close but Sony had always better sells

Re: Xbox 720

There are two big mistakes that MS are going to make. Firstly if they go ahead
with banning the use of used games, how many of us have bought a game
finished the game then sold it to fund the next game or if we can'afford the full
price of a game and waited until came into the second hand market, it would be
like paying for something but never belonging to us for doing what we want
with it.
Secondly having a always on internet connection, what I if don't want to play a
multi player online game and just a quick single player game and the MS servers
are down I will not be able to play.
What MS are doing is not trusting their paying customers the people who pirate
games will always find a way around DRM we already know how easily MS soft
ware is hacked.

Internet connection is really a pain when you want to play lan with friends like old good days...
There is no more possibility to put console on the basement with just a flat tv and a power supply.
It could be a good choice for MS to block piracy (like they did with Blizzard products).

Microsoft and Sony say they will make more money in the end if they lock the games to the games consols because if you want to play the game you will have to buy a new one not a used one myself being a xbox 360 and playstation 3 owner i will not be buying a new xbox 720 or a playstation 4 with these types of restrictions

So far I read ,ps4 and xbox720 wont have any revolutionnary graphic cards or fancy cpu.. So,we wont expect any brillant/new HD resolution.
Only sequels of hits (like gta/halo...),maybe some new way of playing ,but (and it was my point) a change in DRM with a reinforcement against piracy.

Microsoft ,with his new Xbox wants to close any way to pirate their games and make ,with sony and ps4 a profitable market.

Locking the game to a console will be a massive mistake. Players will flock to the console that doesn't do that or return to pc gaming. Also many companies have agreements with 2nd user specialists to get rid of redundant or refurbished goods. They are hardly likely to take these on if their main business of selling used or trade in games can't then take place.
Imagine this scenario.
Nintendo allow used games
PS4 doesn't
Xbox720 doesn't ,all consoles are roughly equal, where would you go...obvious really.

Perhaps the activation of the games is always online but can not always be so games, sunse that according to the speed of the line, serine and low quality slow motion

It is more or less certain that Microsoft leaves it up to the game producers to use always-online DRM or not. So basically the console market seems to be following the pc market here. I don't like it but it is the way it is. I guess the only way to let them know how much you disagree is by not buying such a console at all.

I think its a case of wait and see if sales drop of a lot and nobody buys the new consoles they may well change their mind

I'm intersted what would happen to games if your console breaks down specially after warranty period, or is the game going to be assigned to Live account

Most DRM games allow you 1- 3 installs or tie it to an account which can be shifted, ie origin, steam , uplay etc, even so you can unregister, if a game is locked to a console that is a major shift in policy.

Soon we will find out what a nasty surprise big players have for us. I can already see the fear in the eyes of 2nd hand game shops, it will be a real shame for the poorer gamers tho
