Re: Xbox 720

I read on cnet that an updated and improved version of Kinect will ship with every unit sold and will not be an optional accessory, as the motion-sensing device currently is for Xbox 360.
For the Xbox 720, gamers will need to have the new Kinect plugged in and calibrated for the console to function at all, the source said.
This mandatory Kinect implementation for the Xbox 720 will reportedly be a benefit for developers. Because every system is guaranteed to have a Kinect unit, studios can program their games with the technology in mind, the source said.

So far rumours and guesses shows that next Xbox name will be Xbox Fusion, Microsoft have registered quite a few domains with that name ie XboxFusion.info, XboxFusion.biz,XboxFusion.de, XboxFusion.co.uk, and more

Someone has published alleged email for Xbox employees regards always on connection, in short it won't be needed in some cases but games activation may require internet connection

“Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet. There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.”

Some companies maintain 2 generation compatibility , you can play Wii games on a WiiU , you can play ds games on a 3ds , but never in reverse. This usually mean that unless they break this and immediately kill their existing market , unless games are locked on the previous xbox they may not be on this new one.

As for steam equivalents , after initially hating them , after my pc died a while back I now love it , no need to prove I'm not pirating , just log on with steam, origen etc and reinstall..

I got the response for your question :) : Microsoft has already confirmed its integration plans for PC, tablets and games consoles with Microsoft Play. Designed to extend the appeal of Xbox Live Arcade titles, Microsoft Play provides currently lets you access the games on Xbox 360, Windows Phone, Windows 8 and Windows RT devices. This multi-format support will naturally extend to the Xbox 720 when it finally launches later this year.

Re: Xbox 720

Seems like the closer we get to launch date the more truth we get. Analyst Michael Parker unveils his predictions on which he feels quite certain:

"Rumors have been circulating for months about the Xbox 720, codenamed Durango, that it would utilize always-online DRM seen in games such as Diablo 3 and Sim City, in order to block gamers from playing used games and requiring them to be always online in order to operate the basic functions of the console.

However, according to industry analyst Michael Pachter, this will not be the case. In an interview with Forbes, Pachter made his opinion very clear: “I don’t think Microsoft has the balls to block used games, and I want you to quote me on that,” said Pachter. “Microsoft would alienate 30 percent of their audience by doing that and Sony would step in and exploit that by saying, ‘We’re not blocking used games.’”

It is possible that Microsoft originally intended to have the Durango be online only but pulled the plug because of the negative feedback it has received in the months since the rumor broke out. The Xbox 360, was able to grab a sizable market share from Sony this past generation, essentially drawing even with Sony worldwide. It would be a bold move on Microsoft’s part to block gamers from playing offline and could serve as a rallying call for Sony to restore their former PS2 dominance.

In addition, Pachter is very optimistic about the potential of the day 1 Kinect peripheral which has been rumored to be built into the next Xbox. “The new Xbox Kinect will have limitless possibilities,” said Pachter. “It’s like having a laptop with a camera on the monitor and a microphone and you have all that built into the Xbox. It will be able to do anything PC can do, except for Microsoft Office.”

With graphics becoming less of a factor with each passing generation, companies like Microsoft and Sony need to offer other services and features to entice customers. Sony has been very excited to talk about the DualShock 4 and all of its new features such as the share button, which allows gamers to upload videos and screenshots of their gameplay. According to Pachter it seems as though the next Kinect will be one of the major draws for the next Xbox."

We will have to wait and see , as allways before the launch they will tweak the final product , usually taking stuff off so they can sell you the same one later and add that final benefit .
Let the wars begin .

I think that Microsoft would be sensible to go for a multi platform approach, I would even upgrade to Win8 if I could play XBox games on the pc..

A feature that I was looking forward to will not be included at launch is the
llumiroom it would have added to the gaming experience.

Another feature that I would definitely not be happy with is the one the free
paper 'Metro' you get on the buses highlighted, Xbox one with the kinect
sensor will be able to monitor you and the activities you do in your home:eek:

It will be a opt in feature and if you agree to it you will be getting some kind of
reward(?) and if you sit and watch certain ads you will also get rewards(?) but
it will continue to monitor your lifestyle and start gearing ads to your tastes a
lot like what tracking cookies do now.

I for one would not like a big corporation like MS monitoring me but what do
you think? Would you be seduced by these rewards some would be enchance
the games you play?

It is just another feature of the generation we live in,
A controlled state, do you have a contactless credit card or even a ordinary credit card, or even a debit card, it is all part of the government control, you may not know it but they can tell where you have been what you eat, so another small feature on a games box will assist them in gathering info on you, and people in there masses will be flocking to buy one, don't forget it will be connected to your router, so anyone, if they have the right software can see what you are doing in your own home

Video reward schemes are very common, at the end of the day if you watch commercial tv you are already doing that, ok with hdd recording you can zap the ads these days , which is why they are trying other sources.

As for the home spying, put a bag on the kinect when you aren't using it.

I think if one hardware piece is broken ,the whole console is useless.
I can't believe that every piece is online and necessary to play games. Kinect, online registration...what a dangerous bet for them  !
The Xbox One does knit together new voice commands to do some PC-like stuff: you can order movie tickets, for instance, engage in Skype, or pull up fantasy sports stats while watching a game. The conversational, Siri-meets-Google Now-like voice commands hopefully will have clear menu representation on the console, as otherwise it could get confusing.
