You will always have some issues. How easy they are to resolve depends on the age of the hardware and how good the manufacturer is at updating drivers.

Why don't you install it as dual-boot? Then you can get things working before switching from XP completely.

you must install a fresh copy of win7 and delete the other partition on xp, otherwise the dual boot is good option (depende on your free memory disk and choise)

Instead of upgrading XP, if you install Win7 on a free partition of your existing HDD, or install a second HDD and install Win7 on there, then your PC will be able to boot into XP or Win7.

This has been around since the days of Win98, maybe earlier. There is plenty of info online by using Google :)
do you think is it good to upgrade from windows xp to windows 7? or i might have some problems reinstalling the hardware drivers ?
For me, the best Windows version is XP, usually all the PC devices are 100% compatible with this version.
Windows 7, for me, makes slower my PC, and there are are many users reporting many bugs with PC SAT receivers for example.
So I think you must save your XP, and if you want to try Windows 7 version, install a virtual machine with that version and try the performance of your computer, but my experience tell me that a computer bougth with XP built in from dealer must save this O.S. because it is building (motherboard, pci slots, memory, chipset, etc... for XP). So if you upgrade to 7 version, you must look for all the 7 version PC drivers if you don't want to lose performace.

All depends of your computer features, performance, memory, processor, graphic card, because you must remember Windows 7 have transparency and you need a most powerfull pc to work with this option.

If your computer is not much powefull then install Windows 7 starter edition, that need less resources from your pc.

I know many people very satisfied with 7 version, but I have tried it and today I can say Windows XP is better than 7.

The only one thing to remember is that M.icrosoft will stop XP updates and support nearly. Then, we must think to upgrade to 7 but at the present moment, I prefer Windows XP.

To upgrade to Windows 7 if you have 1GB ram and 1 gh cpu will not have problems but would go a little slow.
The drivers are not usually any problem except one scanner and webcam

And the license upgradig can be done online with Microsoft without having to buy a w7 oem physically

You must consider that if you want best performance and you have x64 system you must install 64 bit OS and the better is win7 Ultimate.
Having ram card bigger than 3 GB in winxp x86 is not supported and so on.

If the computer was designed for XP, I wouldn't upgrade. it will install correctly but you might notice various minor issues.

That was what I wanted to express above. I'm not saying that Windows 7 is a bad operating system, but if a computer is designed for Windows XP to use XP.
Windows XP is unable to handle as much RAM as Win7, but is not needed.
Windows XP uses less resources, everything is compatible, especially satellite television components.
If your XP computer is using XP let XP. If your car uses unleaded petrol can not refuel diesel fuel, because the same for your computer.
If you can install a dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 7 and choose the one you want to start the computer, or install a virtual machine in Windows 7 Win XP installed inside.
It is my advice.
Greetings.

Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

Win XP is OLD - too old Operating System (OS) - from 2001 (10 years!!!), so I always suggest that you try to upgrade to last OS.

If you have old components, first try to find ALL drivers for Win7. If you have some devices without Win7 drivers, see does thay have drivers for VISTA. Vista and Win7 is very similar OS. Then tell us witch devices DON'T HAVE drivers for Win7, and we can suggest you can you transfer to new OS.
I have computer more than 10 years, many devices are very old, and I HAVE Win7. Graphics Gard (Radeon 9550) works with Vista drivers, and my Webcam use beta Vista drivers. Everything else working!

Windows 7 will install everything he can, and in many cases, you can use almost everything. You just need to see how you connect to internet, so you MUST have driver for that device (eg. LAN DRIVER). Then, even if something Win7 doesn't find and install, you can find it on Internet.

So, give us your complete configuration, and tell us witch drivers don't have Win7 drivers....

If you tell us the make/model of your PC/Laptop - we can advise accurately on whether it you can obtain 100% windows 7 drivers for all of the devices on your computer.

I have upgrade more than my fair share of machines in the past. Sometimes a device has no compatible driver for the version of windows your interested in (say windows 7) resulting in the device sitting unused. All for some its not an issue if for example a sony memory card reader no longer works - if they get to experience windows 7 instead.
