Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

I advice u to install virtual machine and compare the performance between XP and 7. I have Dell 1300 Inspiron and its compatible with XP. Installed win7 and had some problems with drivers.

Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

Maybe it's faster to install Win7, see whats happened, and if it's not good, just reinstall WinXP? I installed Win7 on many machines (old) and every time I find compatible drivers for all important devices.

Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

It's better to test the OS native on a PC and not on a Virtual Mashien, if you can run Windows7 on a vm your PC will easy handel Windows7 vm makes no sense to test the performance or stability of your Hardware. Best choice is a dual boot Installation.

Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

Some days ago I tried win7 on my DVB TV watching system. The goal was to check how DVB will work with EVR and directX11 at all.
DVBViewer made me mad saying "You have to upgrade DirectX to latest version - DX9 june 2010"
Then it worked with DX11, but there were absolutely no improves .
Turning on and off became 4 times slow.
The I decided - I don't need it.

Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

If you're computer is older and you are using XP 32 bit version,
it's very advisable that you stay with the 32 bit. So, the best upgrade will be Win 7 32 bit. Because not all computers can handle 64 bit. I'm myself can also still play the older 32 bit games in Win 7 32 bit.

Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

Its a bit late to be trying windows 7 you might as well wait for win 8 it is not long to release date and if you want to try 8 goto microsoft site and download it.

Re: upgrading from XP to Win7 ?

The installation of Win 7 is very easy and the best thing is that it finds and installs automatically most of the hardware drivers.
Does it work now good?

I am finding windows 7 better than xp but you have to see the requirements.
I installed win 7 on an old laptop and it has worked well till I installed few programms.
Than is crashed.
I switched to xp again.
But on my pc I have got win 7
It works fine now but I had to install not only the OS but also a version of programms compatible with w7.
