Yes both sit on laptop cooling fans as i advised him that heat could damage them ,also when he brought his box to me for setting up i could hear arcing from the shaver adapter type plug supplied with it ,without hesitation i cut it off and fitted a proper 3 pin mains plug.

Personally I think the memory of the box is corrupted hence taking an image then not. Your supplier will return your box to the manufacturer and get a box to replace the damaged one I would think.

I think they rather will reflash/hardreset it and return it back ; this isn't very easy, but in such cases I always try to know what they have done (which repair, possibilities to repair for yourself, and perhaps info about avoiding the problem). Just in cases this happens again (out of warranty).

One good feature is the usb socket on the front which is very handy but overall i dont think its as well made .
Anyway will let you all know how things go on getting it replaced fingers crossed.
I found a short USB extension cable attached to back of 9000HD made things a lot easier

Last night the same happened to it again and i have tried all day with the restore tool to get it working.

does the recovery tool fail a lot?,i have checked pc device manager and ports seem to be fine .
Has anyone been in the same position and managed to get it working again,Otherwise as i said to him it will need to go back but he has no faith in Alsat as he thinks he would only get the same one back reflashed but still with the problem.

It seems to me the 9000HD is a much better box.
When I first got my 9000HD (two and half years ago now), I had 2 duff boxes before I got my current box. The first one worked for a couple of days before it wouldn't boot anymore. Then the 2nd one was dead on arrival (just a red light). The 3rd one was fine though so maybe a dodgy batch for the first two?

                Re: New spiderbox not working

I have had my 9000 for 2 years now and I have never had a problem with it other than an occasional reboot from the switch at the back. It seems to get confused when I do a lot of re-scanning of sats. I always update immediately a patch is released and follow instructions to the letter, I also check and delete dead transponders regularly. I think a lot of the problems owners have is down to taking shortcuts and not doing as instructed by the patchmakers, just my personal opinion.

                  Re: New spiderbox not working

I know what you mean with 9000's you always install the main old patch first then latest etc etc,but the 9000hd has only one or two patches so is straight forward, new 9000' i have set up 5 or 6 which are all working fine,a couple have lost channel lists and things like that with friends children who switch them off at the wall without powering down properly .

I think if anything it was the arcing from the silly shaver adapter type plug they supply ,if power was being iinterrupted during boot up then perhaps a loader file could have been corrupted,It well may have been a faulty box but those cheap plug adapters probably account for more than a few problems with spiderboxes as they are so cheap and nasty, and the first thing that needs replaced with a safe approved type mains plug.

Anyway its back with them time will tell.

I agree the shaver adopters plugs are unsafe and should be removed straight away i have seen some with 1 amp fuses then they wonder why the fuse blows

What is the situation if you cut off the adapter to fit a proper 13amp type plug ( with a 3amp fuse fitted of course ) and then send it back under guarantee, is there any hassle ? as I presume that it could be argued that you have have altered the unit, or is this OK to do.

I don't think that would be a problem as you haven't fiddled about with the internals of the stb.
Just to be safe I'd keep the original plug and stick it back on should you need to return it.

That is not possible bokkie as it is a captive lead with a moulded plug.

To be honest, The power lead for my vu+ duo is still in it's wrapping.
I just used my old sly boxes cable.

Yes your right cant glue it back on ,i think after what my friend paid it would be very unreasonable if they did stoop for a way out.
Anyway mods on their forum advise members to replace with a proper plug ,so i think the ball would be fired back if they tried that one.
In good faith they should be fine.
                              I hope.

I cant see how it will be a problem fitting a 3 pin plug hopefully they will just send a new box out for you and repair the old one to sell on later
