Good entry level box but only now and next epg and no more firmware upgrades from the manufacturers except for the very latest boxes.

        Re: Openbox vs others rec.

If you want to buy an Ultimo for £50 then this box is not for you. Good enough for starter if you want to play with the satellites just as newbie. 1080p picture quality, don't forget it also depends on your telly! Only now and next (epg) so can't do time shift but good enough to do a live pause and rewind. Very simple to setup. Plays a few formats in media player. But for £50 thats all you get, not an Ultimo
There's is nothing else available for £50 to beat openbox.

          Re: Openbox vs others rec.

Had 2 of these boxes for 12month now, an s9 for £70 and an s10 for £60, i prefer the s9 over the s10.. All though they are not the best box out there, they are easy to set up and are ok if it's your 1st atemp along the sat root, and just want to watch tv.
I have just updated the firmware to the april 2012 fimware i am very impressed with the onscreen menu's now, instead of the bland boring blue & white menu we have a colourful menu which shows up all the channel names etc, it gives the box a more expensive and appealing look.
I have to say that the epg for uk tv is not good, it only shows now and next, although on other sats i have noticed it works fine.
I have loaded 7 sea lions at once in the box, i have loaded newcamd and shared sly card over newcamd to my ubuntu server, i have used softcam.keys and constant.cw keys without any problem; again not the best for softcam, only works with i****o and c*y**o keys.. still it got me plenty of stuff on 19e and 13e..

Soooo for a newby to the sat scene and wanting an easy 1st box i would recommend the openbox, but hunt around for reputable sellers as there are plenty selling clones..

Although the box only holds 5000 channels i find it is more then enough if you are willing to delete multiple channel listings and things you wont watch, i have all sport channels and movie channels from 30w to 28.2e.. I cant see any fault with the picture quality, great through hd on normal channels excellent on hd channels..

timer recording works well enough, and instant record works for up to 2hours by pressing the record button as many times as you want, this can be extented to record for longer periods.. only fault with recordings... i found it better to record to a usb drive that had its own power supply then just one powered by the openbox usb, as it cause the occasional lip sync problem..

you can press info when on your sealion in menu and it will show you what you are getting and at what hop.

Personally i learned alot from this cheap and cheerful box and i am now ready to update to a newer box and venture into the unknown..

The best thing about the openbox is that you can't really mess with it as long as you know if its an original or clone. If anything goes wrong, just update the firmware or the last option to reset it via RS232(323?) cable and its brand new again.

The media player on S11 is good enough. There are no Fancy graphics and menus but it plays most of the file formats. Watch a film from your external hard drive in full HD or 3D (depending on your TV) with a bucket of pop corn or sing along with the songs whilest having a nice shower.

I have a decoder s12. is a great receiver, I can see all channels in HD. The only flaw is the internal software that is not very sophisticated, but it has all the functions to create the CS.

The specification is almost the same as that on Openbox S11. The new thing is that it supports 3G but Its not an open source Linux operating system. Its not a 1080p.
According to the specification it supports 7 days EPG but none of the openboxes support that.

It may be off topic to answer this question but just want to help.
You are a new member and you have access to only a lower server on Satlover. This server will have lots of freezes as it gets busy and overloaded. When the server is busy the receiver can't get the response in timely manner and it makes it freez or reboot.
There are many traitors on the forum and they just damage the lines for other genuine members BUT we will catch them and we will ban them!
Do a little search on the forum there are seperate threads about the "rebooting"
Here is a link to one of them.
