Just all be a little patient.

Normally you can go to the usb settings and press auto connect and the hard drive will normally be found

Did you connect the drive before or after you switched on the Spiderbox, I seem to remember when I connected my HDD it did not show up when I switched on the Spiderbox after I had connected the Disc, but when I plugged in the drive after the box was switched on it recognized it OK,may be worth a try.

    Hi pan1100.

It is formatted to fat32. The spider doesn't recognise the box so no possibilty to format that way.

I'll try partitioning the drive like you suggest.

    hi cannydo

fat32 formatted? no possibility to format with the box? otherwise first format into fat32 (with eg fat32formatter) and then try to format again with the box?
other option could be to make 2 partitions of 500GB.

I've just tried a powered 1TB drive on the 7000hd, the spiderbox didn't even recognise it!

yes i always format from the spiderbox all i can think is it puts more load on the power supply when there a lot recorded on the hard drive hence the rebooting

Did you format it on the spiderbox? Might be more reliable that way?

I am going to try a 500GB HDD next week, its a powered unit I have connected to my desktop and see how this works. If I have problems I think I will just keep on using a USB stick as they seem to work without problems.

I used the usb source m8 and it still works fine not sure its a hard drive problem or if the spiderbox stops working over so many gigs

I used a slingbox with my sat receivers for a couple of years. I do find them to be a bit fragile though , 2 died within 18 months, great while they work. You can set up virtual remotes with spidy or slybox. Any scart or rf or av input source will do..

    Hi jezs
If you go the slingbox way this is what it does it is a web based piece of kit. Attach slingbox to your receiver via scart plug join slingbox on line with a user name and password. Now you can use any web browser any place in the world that has access to the web just go to slingbox website log in and you can watch the tv channel you left on in the house. You even have control of your receiver to change channels and do as you wish on line remote of course.
