Re: Spiderbox Owners Chat!
I love the idea. The Spiderbox doesn't seem to feature much in this forum, but always good to see a forum that users can chat and share the good times and bad times, and help each other out going forward.
I too have a Spiderbox 9000 and have had it about 3 weeks now, so still a newbie to this box. First impressions are that it's fast, responsive, and very easy to update for channel lists, firmware updates, softcam updates and of course the ease of connecting to servers.Unlike Alshat you can speak here freely about Spiderbox! -
Re: Spiderbox Owners Chat!
Yes I've had an SD5000 now for over two years, the only reason I bought a HD9000 is because I've just bought a new tv!
The reason a lot sat people don't go with spiderboxes I think is their feelings against alcrap.com!Comment

Yes, agreed that although info is there, if you ask a question they don't like, the posts are pruned, closed down, or deleted. It's good that you can go to another forum where freedom of speech is allowed.Unlike Alshat you can speak here freely about Spiderbox!Comment

Re: Spiderbox Owners Chat!
I agree mr euroslob, its like walking a fine line between walking and thread closed, I am hoping that this forum will be able to help set my spiderbox 9000 Hd up and get it working so I can watch one film without a freeze crash or reboot mid film.Comment

Hey Pete
Try a test line from here. I think you have to get ~50 posts from memory, but I went straight in for a 90 day recurring sub. I got my two lines late last night so didn't have too much time to put it to the test. Most Astra 1 channels are clearing, Astra 2 ($ky) and 16e channels too. I haven't tried 39, 13, 0.8w yet.
Channels I tried are freeze free. $ky's are freezing a bit, but having read other forums, everyone is in the same boat due to ECM times etc. I don't fully understand what the figures mean and I've no interest in it, nor did I get the lines for $ky UK as I already have a sub.
You can try a 30 days sub for a tenner which isn't too bad to try their servers out.Unlike Alshat you can speak here freely about Spiderbox!Comment

Just to quote your text not every server is glitching or freezing on 28.2 it all depends on the server and how many clients there are, I have tested quite a few and out of say 20-30 tests there was only around 3 that had a 100% total glitch/freeze free viewing, Mainly because they dont overload the servers.Comment

Re: Spiderbox Owners Chat!
Access to the free server via the gift / Service+ is only the tip of what the receiver can do. Try a line from here for 30 days and you will see how it is so much better and you will soon forget S+
I have had my box about 4 weeks and switched off S+ over two weeks ago and don't miss it as I don't need it.
Have a look around for free lines to get you going, and if you are happy with the channels they unlock, try paying a small amount for access to a server with access to packages from all over the world.
Typically most channels open on Astra 1 @ 19.2e, Astra 3 @ 23.5e, Hotbird, Thor plus Astra 2 @ 28.2e for $ky UK channels.Unlike Alshat you can speak here freely about Spiderbox!Comment

Re: Spiderbox Owners Chat!
I'm considering getting a motorised dish fitted and spiderbox for my sons bedroom as the tv reception is weak. Are they decent boxes for a first timer to use as I really don't want to get heavily involved with Linux and not keen on getting a sly multi room sub.Comment

Re: Spiderbox Owners Chat!
I have a 9000HD. It's a good box provided the user reads all the stickies on the two websites which specialise in spiders. When the box is set up it gives excellent pictures. The user will have gained a good knowledge of satellite reception and in a position to advance into cccam etc if he so wishes. I am certainly pleased with mine and a vast improvement on my technomate.Comment

Re: Spiderbox Owners Chat!
If you don't want to mess about with linux programming for a satellite receiver (i.e. Dreambox - and I have dabbled) then Spiderbox's would be the easiest way to set up.
When you have your dish installed and USAL's set up for your location, it's a breeze updating the box. Firstly, you will require the latest patch which will not only update the receivers firmware, but give you access to the 'gift' that comes with them. What they don't tell you is the gift gives you access to the servers FOC for 12mths. During that time you are expected to do your homework to input lines to access other servers.
Secondly, you will need to download and update the 'softcam' for other channels (however these are limited now), and finally to get you up and running get yourself a channel list to cut down the time scanning all your available satellites.
To do these three important updates, you will need a USB stick. So you download the patches, unzip on your pc, copy to the USB stick, then put in the USB stick into your Spiderbox. From the accessory menu you select your stick and then work your way through the updates. Final reboot of the box and you are away.
Importantly of course, you will need to ensure that the Spiderbox (or any you go for) is connected to the internet - preferrably hard wired, but you can use Homeplugs and their cheaper cousins that do the job nicely to get you access to t'interweb.
I have a subscription from here but the Sky access does breakup quite often making watching a programme and film for any length of time frustrating to say the least. Most other packages including Sky Germany and Italy along with Canal+ and others are very good and reliable. I'm currently trialling a line from the UK just for UK and $ky channels, and been on all afternoon and it's the best one I've had so far with minimal amount of freezing. Their sub is £50 for 6mths which is very reasonable, but there are others of course which can be around £100 for 12mths and feature many other packages, but cannot be relied upon for a stable $ky connection. Get 'test lines' from various sources and see what works out the best for you.
There is a lot of trial and error involved, and you need to put in the work to start with. Once you are up and running, job done. Grab a beer, sit back and enjoy the marvel that is multi-satellite.
Finally, I would say is that if you are thinking of putting this box or running a link to your son's room, I would strongly suggest changing your PIN to prevent access to ***** channels which are readily available.Unlike Alshat you can speak here freely about Spiderbox!Comment
