Well I got an hdmi cable for £1 and it works fine 100% can't see any quality problems.

If it looks like decaying I will throw it in the bin and buy another. Likewise it is 1m. I agree that for big lengths higher quality is needed.

thing to watch out when buying HDMI Lead, CEC compatiblity this allows you to control any CEC Compatible device using a CEC Compatible TV Remote, some HDMI leads from ebay don't work even though they advertise as the compatible version. suprisingly HDMI cable from poundland works with CEC.

thanks to CEC compatible HDMI Lead, when I turn off my CEC Compatible TV, it aslo swtiches off my VU+ Duo Box which cec compatible.

How does cec work then , is it a digital signal , in theory my tv, dvd player are compatible in that way but I have never got it to worl.

Techradar say 5m or less makes no difference to picture , but sound is a bigger issue especially if using surround sound.

you need CEC compatible TV and it need sto be enabled in the TV settings, and ofcourse a CEC Compatible HDMI lead, as far as I know HDMI version 1.3 or above works fine but watch for fake 1.3 hdmi leads on ebay.

My TV uses Regza link which I guess is propriety CEC , you can use the remote to control the dvd and also Toshiba laptops as a media player,, not that I've tried it.

Re: The Myth of HDMI cables

a must read if you have to buy an hdmi cable.
First rule ,check the version of the cable (no matter the gold connectors)

                    and read this:

Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD, introduced in 2006, offer high-fidelity audio features that require HDMI for best results. HDMI 1.3 can transport Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreams in compressed form.[54] This capability allows for an AV receiver with the necessary decoder to decode the compressed audio stream. The Blu-ray specification does not support video encoded with either deep color or xvYCC; thus, HDMI 1.0 can transfer Blu-ray discs at full video quality.[162]
Blu-ray permits secondary audio decoding, whereby the disc content can tell the player to mix multiple audio sources together before final output.[163] Some Blu-ray and HD DVD players can decode all of the audio codecs internally and can output LPCM audio over HDMI. Multichannel LPCM can be transported over an HDMI connection, and as long as the AV receiver supports multichannel LPCM audio over HDMI and supports HDCP, the audio reproduction is equal in resolution to HDMI 1.3 bitstream output. Some low-cost AV receivers, such as the Onkyo TX-SR506, do not support audio processing over HDMI and are labelled as "HDMI pass through" devices

Re: The Myth of HDMI cables

I think then I am right in saying that HDMI 1.4 is identical to 1.3 except that it can .
                      a) Do double the resolution
                      b) Act as an ethernet cable.
                      c) Offer 3d via HDMI

Also isn't HDMI 2.0 going to be rolled out soon for UHDMI tvs
