Re: The Myth of HDMI cables

Have bought HDMI leads for £1 from Poundland and they have all worked perfectly.

It is just a scam, best used by staff at Dixons, etc to get you to spend more.

You can even get them delivered direct to your door for not much more:

By HDMI cables difference can not be found because this is digital cable and not analog as for example scart... So I agree that the only difference is price and nothing else.

Perhaps they might show some differences in the larger cable lengths.

older versions of HDMI cables use to have audio sync delay issues, I think these versions are no longer made.
also watch out , some ebay sellers sell HDMI that are not suitable for 1080p, only 1080i

I have to give BOJ 5 Stars for this.

I too have bought both expensive HDMI, Component HiFi and Speaker cables.

And unless you are a pure audiophile, most of the basic stuff will be good enough for your home setup.

**Not sure, but HDMI cable manufacturer's may have to pay a Licence fee for the label "HDMI". **

As for Scart cables, some are full SCART and others only cary the basics. But in all cases its about sheilding the unwanted "Interference & Crosstalk" betwen the individual wires/transmission circuits.

            ***ADVICE***

Try out the cheaper stuff first, then if you are happy, but still curious try something more expensive. Just don't go for the most expensive first. You may not need it.

if your needed cable lenght is short then dont worry about the quality. it will work perfectly even it is the cheapest one. if cable lenght is very long then be more selective.

                Hi

must agree ; have some short cables (less than 1 meter) which all work fine (cheap ones and expensive ones with goldlayer or so) ; if longer cables are needed, don't take them to long (just the lenghth which is really needed) ; indeed longer cables must be a lot thicker and it's best to not buy the cheapest ones, as there's a realistic chance they won't work (I sadly experienced this myself).

So - according to my opinion - the myth is both true and false .

Agree with the above , having bought a lcd tv , the amount of HDMI cables for aftersales is huge . For some gullible people especially the older generation that take the word of the salesmen as law is easy to get duped into paying over the odds for a simple cable .

The Myth is true any HDMI cable under 10m in lengh will not differ in quality if you pay 100 euro or 1 euro, The Signal that HDMI carries is digital and so you will not see any benefit from a more expensive lead as the loss is minimal.

Anything over 10m in length then you should look at a quality Lead, Preference though if it is a long lengh is HDMI extenders over Cat5e

Sorry mate, me too I don't competely agree: my father-in-law doesn't know much about boxes, cards, cams and the internet, but about all kinds of cables he knows better than myself and most salesmen (I think his over 70).

Thanks to him I got all the cables I need at a fair price ; on the other hand he has some boxes with all he wants. Good cooperation!

Apart from the HDMI cable: does anyone has suggestions about a working digital optical splitter/converter. I tested a few but none worked (have 3 outputs but only 1 input).

i would have to agree with the picture quality, but sometimes the quality of the product is not as well made.

According to my opinion there are also component video cables which give very good picture quality (I saw better picture quality than with some HDMI cables). Disadvantage is that you need extra audio cables.

I have a 7" Tablet which says that you can play 3D films from tablet to a 3D TV. It needs a mini HDMI. I looked for one in PC World and they are far too expensive. I wasn't confident if I should buy one online. Now from the other posts it looks like there's no difference between the expensive and the cheapo stuff.
