ofcourse for sd channls component have better quality for plasma and lcd and for hd channels hdmi is better for sharpness and dts audio. also good quality of receive tuner is very important to best result.

one of those cheap HDMI cables got hot for unknown reason and had to throw it away before it does a damage to my tv hdmi port, so beware cause some of them are not safe. get them in package and look for safety warnings.

This could be because the conductor used was too thin, resulting in high resistance and so getting hot.

Getting hot is a very strange failure.
It's ok to throw it away. Did you get a picture before you have thrown it away (although it got hot)?

the HDMI wire had a look that it was the best quality it was cover by a metal lookin net and had metal ends that you could unscrew (which i did ) and inside were the pins plug on the HDMI. after i open it i saw some solvering pins inside cover with glue. the wire was giving signal fine with no problem but when i try to remove it to use my PS3 i found it hot so i took it off and open it to see what cause tha strange heat. i chould but it back after disabling it but i thrown it away so no one else use it.

there are hdmi cables of 30 and 50m but the price is very high!

The main advantage of gold plated ones is that over time they won't degrade. They also are less likely to damage the input socket.

agreed, but if they cost double or x-times a cheap one, in case of short distance cables, why give your money? At the time your cheap one is broken, buy another one (which will probably better than the gold one you bought before).

btw: with cheap one, I still mean some quality cable from some kind of a local shop, so no chinese - really cheap - ones!

Where's there an amplifier in the cable?

A 30m cable will defenitly not work! More than 10m and the problems begin.
15m is the absolutly end!

When the length of the HDMI cable is more than 10 meters creates strong attenuation , with a length of more than 10 meters need to use an additional device, it amplifiers or signal recovery. These devices allow you to use the HDMI cable lengths up to 30 meters.
