It also depend on your equipment too , If you have some nice setup, then you need a optimum result which is base on nice connections. Some expensive cables have fine quality connectors and better durability

        hi

true, if you're talking about normal 'short' cables - also always were pleased wirh cheap ones - for longer ones, picture quality may be worse on the cheaper ones.

I have got an installation with a 15 meters HDMI cable.

With a cheap and bad cable I have pixelations and image freeze sometimes. With a good quality cable (not the most expensive, only good quality) all is OK.

The best test, for me of course, is 3D frame packet.

With short cables I have not notice any difference (omitting the Ethernet connection).

I have a cheap cable, 7 euros for 10m (bought from amazon).
1080i and 720p means no problem, 1080p no chance - blackscreen or white snow.
I only need 1080i so it's usable for me. If you need longer cables (5m and more) with 1080p buy a better cable!

after spending 500+euros on dish, lnb and receiver are you going to find a cheap 5euro hdmi cable? it doesnt sound logical. now if you just want the job done a cheap cable will still do it.

have some experience with cheap/expensive hdmi cables too.... must say only if cable is longer than 5 metres you need better quality.. shorter distances use cables with standard quality (10-20 euros), best quality cables up to 120 € (3m) extreme differences in price

Expensive cables have fine quality conductors inside and much better quality Connectors for loss less signal and digital interface

Bluerays use 1080p with 24 frames/second, that's not the normal 1080p (50 frames per second!

So if your cable accepts 1080i (like the cheap one from me does) you can use 24p from bluerays with no problem.

yes maybe the 120€ cables are better ... but do we really need this?

cant see any difference bluray 3d files when changing cable.. i have a standard cable quality (3 stars of 5, golden connectors and good isolation, costa about 25€) and the premium cable (5 of 5 stars, which is over 100 € ) . sure nobody should buy a 3€ cable

Using normal lenght cables (1,5m), I've never seen notable quality differences.

I read a good article on wiki this morning.
It was about the 2.0 version of hdmi cable
The HDMI Forum is working on the HDMI 2.0 specification.[151][152] In a 2012 CES press release HDMI Licensing, LLC stated that the expected release date for the next version of HDMI was the second half of 2012 and that important improvements needed for HDMI include increased bandwidth to allow for higher resolutions and broader video timing support. Longer term goals for HDMI include better support for mobile devices and improved control functions.
It has also enhancement to network streaming ,and this can be a good opportunity for sat ,no ?

I don't think higher resolution will be used for sat channel in next few years due to bandwidth cost, maybe one channel. It could be used for new type of storage support like new types of blu-rays with 4k or or higher resolution.

Having been in the electronics industry for about 25 years I always thought low level (a few millivolts)and frequency (audio) analogue signals and low level (a few uVolts)VHF ( above 150MHz) need better quality well screened cables. The fact that ethernet cables use telephone cable and connectors proves that digital signals which are usually high level are fairly immune to ouside influece so cheap HDMIs for me. The digital revolution in audio and video has simplified life for the consumer so keep it cheap.

The most normal sat-receivers are connectet with hdmi-cables which have a lenght of 3m and shorter.
For this you only need a cheap cable (5 euros) for 720p or 1080i.
So you can waste a lot of money with much too expensive cables!
