Most electronic products have some sort of built-in fan, helping to cool the device as it runs. This is most often found in computers; however, digital cable and satellite receivers also have the fan feature. If you can hear a hum emanating from the fan in the receiver it is because a build up of dust is making it rub up against other items in the receiver. In order to correct this you need to remove the dust and debris from the fan
Things You'll Need:
* Compressed air
Instructions
1.Power down the digital receiver and disconnect it from the wall connection and the television.
2.Turn the device upside down. You are going to find a vent either on the bottom or towards the back of the receiver. This is where the fan is located. If you look in you can see the motionless fan.
3.Spray a few shots of compressed air into the vent, aiming it towards the fan. The strong burst of air will remove the dust from the fan.
4.Connect the digital receiver back to the wall connection and television, then power the digital receiver back on. You should no longer hear the fan hum while the device is powered on.
