    Recommended wall mount for TD88

    I'm planning to finally put a motor on my TD88. Currently it's mounted almost flat to the wall. I know I need a new mount however I'm not sure what size mount to buy.

    I want the dish far enough away from the wall that it will rotate, however I'd like it as close to the wall as possible. If the mount is too long there is a risk the LNB will hang over my fence line into my neighbours property.

    So, any suggestions on the minimum length mount I should buy?

    Hello

    Your dish it's 88cm and that's means that you need a wall mount bracket at least 45cm.
    If you want to be sure that you will receive all the satellites until the wall from right or left side, then you need a bracket of 55cm.

    Take a look here:

      The distance from the wall of the house the dish is mounted on to the fence line with my neighbour is 160cm, the depth of the dish is about 90cm (bit hard to measure in the dark!). If I get a 45cm mount that means the dish will stick out 135cm and that doesn't take into account the extra depth added by the motor.... not sure what that will be?

      So that puts the LNB very close to the fence line. I wonder if there are any rules that would stop me from being so close to the border.

        A set of 18" T&K's with a short length of Scaffold pole and as long as your due south is straight ahead similar to your Zone2 in your picture then this will give you at least 60° each way on a Diseqc motor

          @f1fan

          Don't forget that the lnb does't look the satellite directly but through the dish.
          I suggested to you a 45cm or 55cm mount bracket because the dish needs the necessary space in order to turn left or right to make a good reception of many sattelites.

          You can use a shorter pole but then your dish will not be able turn on any side and you will receiving only the satellites that are in the same line of your dish.

          Can you post a photo taken from the side that shows the dish and the fence?

            Trust me now in all the years of Installing dishes an 18" set of T&K's will give you the Full ARC without a shadow of a doubt its simple mathematics:

            TD88: 95cm high by 85cm wide half that due to the centre bracket where the motor will be so say 42cm 18" T&K 46cm plus the push out of the motor Stub is another say 13cm

            so thats 46+13 = 59 the dish half is 42cm plenty of room.

            even on 12" T&K if you have a direct south facing wall you could still get to around 45° both sides but the 18" will give you a little play if due south is off to one side.

              @kalpikos

              I'll try and take a photo as soon as I can get outside in daylight, I hate the winter, drive to work in the dark, drive home in the dark

              @digicon

              The zone 2 is pointing at 19.2e, the TD88 will be mounted next to it on the same wall.

              Hopefully a photo will help answer my next question in that I'm worried my neighbours roof may block the signal of any sats to the west.

                @f1fan

                I also hate the winter
                I think that the winter is the worst enemy of the satellite world.
                I don't have signal from almost all satellites due to snow on lnb and dish.

                As about the neighbours roof , take a photo in a way that can we see both the dish and the roof.

                  You must be much further north than me to have a snowy lnb problem!

                  I managed to get a few photos, then realised you can't upload photos directly on the forum, doh! Need to find some where to upload them and then link to them. Damn!

                      Ok, so this is the gap between the two houses, you can see the existing white TD88 on a U shaped mount flat to the wall.

                      I'm hoping that a 45cm mount + a motor + the dish itself won't put the lnb out over the dividing fence.

                        Certainly looks OK, I would think that your neighbour would have to be a
                        pretty sad individual to complain even if the Lnb did on some occasion cause a problem.

                          Well... when that ground floor extension was built the neighbour said they didn't put a side window in because it would have looked at the dish! Bizzare, a dish wouldn't stop me putting a window in my house, I'd rather have the daylight!

                            I agree with @Mobley3

                            Looks ok and I think that you wouldn't have any problem with installation.
                            Take a meter stick and measure the additional 50 cm in front of the dish.
                            In this way you can take a look on how it will be your dish with the mount.

                              Suns out today for the first time in a month so I can actually get outside for once!

                              So, when I remount the dish it's going to move closer to the neighbours house. What worries me is that I won't be able to get a signal when the dish rotates towards west satellites.

                              I took this photo from under the dish looking up at the clouds. You can see it points over my neighbours single story extension. But towards the west the main house comes into view. You can see the LNB at the moment is pointing at 9E.

                              _http://imageshack.com/a/img845/6471/w5gj.jpg

                              How can I work out if the line of sight is going to be effected? At the moment I don't have the ladders to mount the dish higher than it already is.
