eventhough dream multimedia meets german engineering standards,

you need to buy an additionnal sim card (~40E + transport )
to make your dreambox fully operationnal

keep it to the topic, this is not a discussion about dreambox or vu price difference, discuss that in different thread. Here only what's best box according to you and why.

          Re: best satellite receiver box

          let me suggest here

          the best sat receiver box

should have an adsl modem -router-switch (wired and wifi) on board

-- with of course, iptables compiled for the satbox cpu --

          so that i can :

          - switch off my venerable modem,
          - switch off my venerable switch,
          - join closely my laptop,
          - save energy
          - and cables

            Hi umairaziz786,

The following 2 pages will help you to compare the 2 receivers:

In my opinion, vu+ solo 2 is the king.

First time i try one Dreambox 800 hd and then all was fine but onestly now i have an Vu Solo 2 Duo and for me this is much better because is much faster , have 2 tuner and i put one ssd inside and with meoboot i have more image each image are are diffrent plugin so if you want see on IPTV go to one image if you want to see sat. program go to other image ideea is to one image not have too much plugin so image work faster.

                  I have a VU solo2 original.
I never checked on the specifications before buying it.
I took it for granted that it had both DTT and wifi before buying it.
Anyway I installed Blackhole and Openpli, and my preference was Openpli.
Problem is I whiles Sky A867 works automatically on Blackhole, I have never been able to make it work on Openpli.

I also have an genuine vu+solo2 and I'm very happy so far.

                      I use openpli4 and it's amaising receiver.
It's very fast , very reliable with very good support for plugins, addons and images.

Vu receivers have many things in common with dreamboxes but for me they are much better , faster and of course they worth their money.

I recommend it without second thought.
I have vu+solo2 with openpli4, but cannot get my SKY A867 usb pen to work for DVB DTT reception.
                      Can anyone help?
                      Thanks

                        Hi rasanansa

You have to search the web for the appropriate drivers of your usb pen.

You had to be sure before you bought this usb pen that it's recognised by your vu+ because if I'm not mistaken it's not supported.

                              Re: best satellite receiver box

After tested a few receivers, my conclusion is:

Best receiver is the one with most powerful CPU. Period.

Most recent and good sat receivers cpus support mp4/aac decoding on the fly with almost zero cpu usage, all depends on software and how fast is it plus features.

If you go for enigma2 (witch is bad coded and slow by nature because of python bindings) you need a good cpu if you dont want to lag, so here VU+ is best.

If you go for something else, Amiko A3 is best on market, nothing beats the Amiko A3 ARM Cortex A9 1.5GHz Dual Core CPU right now.

If none of above works for you, you can make your own received with a mini pc and drop 1 or 2 pci sat receivers and you got the best ever receiver. The guys on XBMC have a thread how to build one, including what remote control to put and so on.

                              /my 2 cents

My vote goes for the Vu+ Zero.

It does an excellent job, hasn't slowed down a bit yet. If you don't need more than one tuner it more than suffices (and you could add USB tuners).
