    Re: help about satellite receiver

This is what I would be looking for in a receiver, a quality build, a good tuner, the ability to
load a cline and the ability to utilise the new iptv technology that looks like being the
    future.

Please do not get a x5 it has lots of problems if you going for a cheap box go for
skybox F3 or F5 they both have c line support but lacking in iptv side of things
for other non linux box I would go for Spiderbox 60000, TM F3/F5 and the Amiko
Speil all with iptv support. But for a more flexible option like others I recommend
going for a Linux E2 box, clones are very cheap compared to originals.

                            Re: help about satellite receiver

messi94 please ****** for openbox X5 do research, I help people with openboxes/skyboxes the openbox X5 uses a different channel list to all other openbox/skybox but I wiil not say anymore some people do like it and this only my own opinion.

This from user of openbox forum:

I think this forum needs a thread like this. I will start. It can keep all gripes and complaints about the firmwares features in the one place :

                            1. EPG only updates / refreshes when the channel is changed . This is really really poor. I cannot see what is on another channel in the channel list, unless I change it over. This is a massive downside. The
whole point of EPG and browsing is to see if there is anything better on that what you are watching. There may not be, and you may want to continue watching the current channel. Also, you end up having to switch over every channel you want to check. Very very very very poor. Even a method of grabbing EPG from a 3rd party source would be good.
It appears EPG can only be grabbed when the channel is streamed. Is there no way, EPG can be grabbed from the listed channels without changing to them???

                            2. Will there ever be more than Now & Next available for Sky UK TV Channels? Even a 3rd party source option would be good.

                            3. Favourites ( I will split this up as this has several issues and flaws ) :

The remote favourite button takes you to the favourites editor. You would really expect it to take you directly to the favourites list instead. You can get to the favourites editor via the menu, why would you want a hard coded remote button to get to the editor as well. This button needs to be re-assigned and the favourites needs a separate menu all of its own.
Getting to the favourites menu is convoluted. You have to press OK to see the channel list, then select the green button to bring up a floating menu. Then, in order to get back to the standard channel layout / list, you have to press OK again to bring up the list channels (which is currently whatever favourite list you selected), then press the red button and select All Satellites to get back to the standard channel layout again. This really needs to be simplified as at the moment it is a bit of a pain.
There is no way to rename the Favourite Names 1 - 8 . There should be.
There should be a way to clear an entire Favourite list easily.

                            4. Changing the Opacity of the OSD causes brightness issues in the menu. It should not affect the menu at all.

The above really should be addressed soon as they really bring this box down.

I hope the above and what anyone else posts here are taken into consideration by the firmware developers. I know the openboxes are the budget end, but IMO, putting some work into the above gripes / issues would allow you to sell a lot more boxes.

I previously owned a Starview DVB box for cable. The starview boxes were crap, but even they managed to get the above things right.

The Openbox X5 could be so much better if these simple things could be addressed. Usability is key.
