If you want to buy an original, I suggest you take a look at some german shops/sites, experiences are good (some are even sponsors of other - german - forums) - I believe they'll surely be cheaper than in the uk.

Sorry to hear of your mis-fortune M8, make sure whichever one you buy to use a good quality Anti-Surge unit to plug in to. I never plug any Hi-Fi, TV's or Sat Receivers directly into a socket.

i always thought u only need a surge protector in countries with unstable power like the usa. i think the surge may of come thru the Ethernet cable as the internet is down in my house and nothing else in the house seems to be affected by the surge. so the surge protector would of done nothing.

No mate, a Surge protector is to limit or ground any spike in voltage. A lightning strike would cause a massive spike, which could be what fried your vu+ duo.

An genuine vu+solo2 is costs about 340€ and a vu+duo2 about 500€.

As you said you can easily find a clone of solo2 for 200€ but you must know that until now there is no support for vu+ clones solo2 and duo2.

I must admit however that the quality of the new clones is very good and and they are free of problems of the past.

i believe the surge may of come thru the phone cable and affected the duo thru the Ethernet cable because my router is fried also

i will probably get a clone solo2 because of ur recommendation theres just 2 things i wanna know first.

how stable are the clone boxes and can they run ts media plugin my duo would crash anytime i tired to stream a video thru ts media plugin.

I don't have a clone , so I can't tell you my own experience.
But I know, I have read a lot about the clones and so far they don't have problems.

The only issue until now is that they can't be flashed with the latest images of the team because of the attack against clones from the vu+.

The quality is familiar of genuine boxes.
Many owners of clones didn't even know that they have a clone until the 16/12/2013 when the new update of drivers came from the vu+.

i'll order a solo2 so from aliexpress hopefully they won't take too long to come back from there holidays and ship it quick.

pity it doesn't have the same psu as the duo so i could actually find out if the duo if totally fried or what

my solo 2 clone is currently on the way.
it was shipped with bh image but i prefer the vix image anyone know where i can get that image safe for the clone box or is it that any image before 16/12/2013 will work on it safely??

Vu+ released the new drivers in 16/12/2013 and until then I think all images are safe for use.

The BH image is very good image and have many plugins already installed.
If you don't use them or if you find it very heavy, I suggest you openpli and not vix image because has only the necessaries and gives you the oportunity to select what you really need to install.

When you get it, I would like to see a full review with your impressions .
Of course don't forget to mention the price you got it .

yeah i will check out blackhole for a few days just wanna be ready if its not for me as i hear its kinds more for the advanced user and im so use to vix with using it for a year with my duo. never really liked openpli i thought it was very basic/dated looking but that could of just been the version i had on the duo when i first got it was an older version. can't remember which version but in its defence it was very stable

i will definitely let ye guys know how good the box is when i get it. all in it was 195 euro including dhl shipping from china. i should of had it today, the delivery driver had it since 9.30am this morning. i waited all day for him to call and there was a msg at 5.20 when i checked the tracking info saying "Address information needed contact DHL" when dhl emailed me a few days earlier my address and phone no which were correct. how convenient the message was left 10 mins before the driver finishes his shift even tho they already have my address and phone no... the fecker must of forgot to deliver it..
