    Caution!!! VU+ Solo2 clones

I would like for you to pay attention and warn the members that are thinking of buying a VU+ Solo2 that the clones are already on sales and it’s very hard to recognize them.

They are sold as second hand mostly on eBay and the sellers also claim that they bought it a few weeks ago and don’t know how to use it.

Of course you can find them easily on famous China’s stores at very good prices.

As I said above, the differences between a clone and a genuine box are very difficult to find and until now there is only one known on the motherboard (a chip with the red arrow) as you can see in the following photos:

    Upper side of motherboard

    Down side of motherboard

My advice is to be careful from where you buy and who you trust, because in order to save some money you can easily make the mistake to buy a clone.

    Additional Information:

The first clones are here and they were revealed due to a new update with Vu+ drivers from 16 december 2013.

The vu+ relesead this clone protection drivers in order to fight the piracy.
When a user try to flash his box with a new image after the end of the procedure starts a FPGA upgrade at first reboot.

If the vu+solo2 is genuine all is ok, but if it's a clone the user take an HW error.

It was only a matter of time untill this clones appear.

Do you have concrete informations about price differences between original and clones?

Unfortunatly there are no external signs for recognizing.

The only way to understand if a box is a clone or not is to flash it with one of the latest images after 16/12/2013.

            That's true

Blackhole 2.0.8 includes the new drivers.
Almost all teams have already released new images that include the new update.

            VTi V 6.0.4 ,openvix-3.0.806, openatv, OpenPLi-4.0, OpenPLi-3.0 etc

one more photo of a Vu+Solo2 clone showing the chip which on a genuine box does not exists:

                Yes my friend

The new driver has protection against the clones.
If a user tries to update his receiver with the new driver which is already included in all new released images,it starts a FPGA upgrade at first reboot and if the box is a clone then a HW error is taken.

The user can reflash his box with an older image (before 16/12/2013) in order to recover it.
The box will be still working without any problem.

                  Re: Caution!!! VU+ Solo2 clones

I have read on other forum that
Vu+ is not making anymore Solo2
That was said in a discussion about solo2 clones.

Do you know something about this? Just a rumor? It's very strange if it's true!

                  regards

                    many thx for the info,

btw, do you know what is the purpose of this additional chip ?

                    - supplementary functions ?
                    - more cpu ? more transcoding ?
                    - rootkit ?
                    - whatsoever ?

how the clone out- under- perfoms when compared with genuine ?

I think that the additional chip is placed there in order to make the box to be fully copied from the original.
A clone has the same functions, features and abilities as the genuine box.
Probably , the chip helps the clone to function correctly.

Yes, but if you try to flash the box with an image after 16 Dec 2013 , it's very easy to find if your new box is a clone or not , because you will get HW error on the FPGA upgrade.
