    Re: DVB-S vs DVB-S2

It is not difficult tu get DVB-S2, only thing you need is DVB-S2 compatibile box.

DVB-S2 is usualy slightly weaker signal compare to DVB-S, but not much.

Besides this, technologies implemented in the second generation of DVB are more advanced.
The terrestrial brother of Dvb-S2 (it's of course Dvb-T2) is stronger against interferences, and this is very good for broadcasting.

          Re: DVB-S vs DVB-S2

          I try in short words:

In dvb-s2 you have more information in the "wafe-stream". This means you have more "bit-signals" in one symbol so you need a lower "cosinus-roll-off" in the wave building.

Symbol-rate 27500 means more bit-information in dvb-s2 than in dvb-s so your tuner must be more sensitiv.

to decode 8PSK requires a higher signal / noise ratio, so you need to pay attention to the quality of LNB

So, its getting more tough as many transponder now changing from DVB-S to DVB-S2 and require perfect Dish, High Quality LNB and Super sensitive Tuner

@rizwan, yes, but dvb-s was constructed for lnbs 15 years ago.
Now you have much better lnbs so that normaly dvb-s2 should be no problem with the same dish size as dvb-s in the past.

Depends on the lnb type, the position of dish ect

Thank you for all these replies, I am also getting many Transpoders with DVB-S2 modulation, just have difficulties on Weak Satellite, hardly to get DVB-S but there is no good Chance for DVB-S2 on same satellite

                            Re: DVB-S vs DVB-S2

The dvb-s transpoders use the qpsk signal, dvb-s2 uses mostly 8psk.

The difference is that qpsk gives 2 bits per symbol, 8psk gives 3 bit per symbol.
                            So you need a better snr (4 - 4,5db) for dvb-s2. That's all...

                              hi Satphoenix

correct, here (belgium + also netherlands) some tp's changed to 8psk (were already dvb-S2) and since then I've read a lot of complaints on weak/bad signal, as soon as it begins to rain.
