I would go along with @digicon quote...
It would be awesome that DTH service and marriage of box key and card dcw be implemented at cs, at least on a new Na*ra system.
Of course, it would mean openness on all American HD channels as well as DirecTV platform and others... but then again, wouldn't it be good to some unbreakable channels over the years as American ones, to be broken once more. US citizens would feel power of CS at their disposal. cheering for it...

        hi,

also take care to check the internal chip: as an example, if it is a sim a8p or a sim 2.10, it is possible to use images but not the original from dream multimedia

My et4000 is running very stable with enigma2 (openpli). And with the correct plugins (e.g. mediaportal) you have much more than a "normal" satreceiver.

But as you see, you have a big choise up to ~150 Euros...

I said more stable because i have read that ET4000 had stability problems with more than 30 lines and problem with the image quality (drivers). In terms of hardware and support xp1000 and et4000 are identical.

            regards

              hey, look at this:

              1 x DVB-S2 Tuner
              10/100MB Network interface
              128MB Nand Flash / 256MB DDR Memory , 750 MHz MIPS Processor
              Linux OS
              MPEG2 / H.264 Hardware Decoding
              Media Player
              Supports downloadable plugins (e. g. PVR-Function)

              XP1000 : 129.00 GBP
              Linux operating
              Enigma 2 based firmware,
              1x DVB-S/S2 fixed tuner,
              2x CA (card reader),
Powered by a 500Mhz Broadcom MIPS CPU, 512MB DDR3 RAM and 128MB flash.

May be the ram makes the difference ?
And not so the cpu freq ?

Hello. That specs of ET4000 are not right.

They have the same processor (BCM 7358), ram and flash.

My recommendation would be a dreambox clone, because it's cheaper than the original one and is almost as good as the original, so this would actually be a good choice, get a compatible wireless stick and voila, but still i would recommend for cardsharing to use a cable.
If you think my post was helpfull for you, i would be glad if you click the thanks button.

@BlueIsMyColor: You are right (as far as I know)...

But don't look too much on more speed, more ram etc. in the actual sd and hd-technics.
The most "normal" hd-receivers for cs have a good and usable performance, more important for me is the picture quality in upscaling sd picture material.
I use my et4000 for watching sd and hd channels and as media player for h264-streams in sd quality (e. g. from mediaportal).
Dreambox is surely a good receiver but too expensive. That's why they have many financial problems and a "clone-industry" has grown up.

If you only want to watch tv with a bit cs, I recommend a cheap system (not linux) like ferguson ariva. It's more easy to handle, has a booting time ~5 seconds and with the correct settings and setup very "lady-like". That's a big advantage if you have a women at home who wants only to watch tv and doesn't care for the technics.

If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans!

Re: what kind of receiver do you use/reccomend?

My receiver is an SkyStar S2 HD PCI Sat receiver.
For me is an optimal way to access to DVB HD Sat broadcastings.
                                Why?
Because is cheapest than any Set top box, It is not linux based. It runs under Windows environment.
You only need to install the Sat PCI card, drivers, codecs, and a DVB PC Sat Viewer like DBVDream and a pc sat emu, like hadu. And all is run fine, without image updates, without problems, and it runs with the most emu apps in the market.
Newcamd, CCCam, and many new systems more.
It manages diseQc, and as it runs in your PC, you can use it via Wifi too (with your pc wifi antenna) .
With an optimal HD graphics card, you will be able to plug your PC to your TV and you will watch any HD channel.
So on, this card is designed to use with internet through Sat, and you will be able to download without sat internet, contents from sats with some available apps.
With DVBdream i.e. you will be able to watch until 8 channels at time with PIP function. With DVBViewer you will be able to watch 3D broadcastings without a 3D TV, (anaglyph conversion, red-cyan glasses).
You will be able to watch tv and surf internet at time. You will be able to open a TV windows where you will watch your favorite program and watching your favorite web site at time.
For me is the best, easy to use, easy to install.
There is also a USB device for every PC type, laptop, notebook, etc...
And so cheap, 50 euro with shipping included.
For me is the cheapest, easy and good quality sat receiver.
                                Best regards.

If you are interesting, there is also a SkyStar 2 SD receiver (Not HD receiver). It costs no more than 25 euro.
I can tell you where you can order a SkyStar SD2 HD or a SkyStar 2 SD pci sat receiver.
