vu+ solo2 advantage of big 2x1300 mhz cpu power

    hi,

i've grabbed some specs about VU+ brends,

    abstracted, it gives:

Vu+ Ultimo Uno Solo Solo2 Duo

CPU type MIPS MIPS MIPS MIPS MIPS
    CPU (MHz) 2x400 2x400 333* 2x1300 400

is it worth to rise up the cpu power up to 2x1300 mhz ?

Yes, it is worth rising the cpu power. Because the receiver will be so much faster.

do you really see the difference between a 2x400 and a 2x1300 mhz ?

Absolutely yes, it is worth it.
I had a vu+ duo before upgrading to the solo2, and it is so much faster. Downloading and parsing epg, zapping, plugins, basically anything which requires processing power.

          ok, thx,

this is precisely the point i'd like to know from experienced satlovers.

          actually, i have a venerable dm500 STBx25xx, 252MHz for Video Format: 720x576 4:3 25 fps, for SD thus.

          - the pics are very nice ( with a large dish and snr >95 !), no white spot.

          - some delay (1..5sec ...30 sec when freezing @ prime time) for the tasks you mention here above.

          - for epg, ie some text download, make up as an html, should not requires ghz, is'nt it ?

          - for zapping, as a not expert, my opinion is the zapping time comes from cam server time response, is it ?

all this make me feel suspicious about big fast consuming cpu for sat rcvr

          - for the plugin, yes, i must say i do kown a lot out there, i can't tell much .... comments welcome

this might justify the need of higher freq ?

Hi I have a Solo 2 Duo and before i use one Dreambox 800 clone but is true for me in sat reception no big diference i think depend the ping on internet response for server but is true is much faster in other aplication (streaming, IP tv etc.)The time boot is realy faster then other.

Faster processor, faster response speed of satellite receiver.
I think it's more usable value.
              Well for me for sure.

                hi aplok,

all informations are processed by the cpu. And the slowest conponent of the chain decides the speed of data processing. That mean increase the cpu speed will increase the data processing speed (i mean all data which come with the video stream over your lnb).
Because it is the cpu which control the processing of data in a FPGA ( which is very fast).

                Regards
                Clark

                  hi guys,

streaming: that is also a good point !

when pc watching out of e1-dm500 server, i noticed huge difference from time to time !
some film was ok, some were really bad !

is it from sat rvcr ?
or, isn't it from the cypher complexity, ie independent of the sat rcvr cpu ?

Even on fta channels, zap time is significantly faster. Don't forget the solo2 also has more ram and flash memory, gigabit lan, plus the transcoding feature.

I recently bought Solo2 and have to say I'm impressed with it power. Not sure what your expectations are but I like to watch mkv movies and this baby runs them easily even with high bitrate 1080p or 3D ones. Another aspect where CPU helps a lot is transcoding, streaming HD movie to laptop or iPad runs smooth and the rest is previous users said, boot time, loading of plugins, zapping, and the list goes on... but at the end of day it's you deciding what features are important to you

Have a Solo2 and Uno, the solo boots faster, but for basic watching when on a channel you can not see the difference.

Having had 4 different DM machines over the last 25 years, they have lost their way to VU+ these days.
                          In both price, and quality.
I would love for them to come back but it could be a very long wait.

so, please to hear from you ...

quality: ok for reactivity, and the watching ...
which quality do you mean ? stable image, ergonomics, ... ?
your long time experience, over vu+ and dreambox is valuable to know !

In addition to the processing power, another important difference for those who watch MKVs, for example, is the resolution:

Vu+ Solo, Uno, Duo, Ultimo specifications: 1080i max
                              Vu+ Solo2: 1080p

Of course that for watch satellite there won't be any difference because satellite transmissions have 1080i max resolution, at this moment. But Solo2 is more future proof.

                              regards
