    hi

same here, no worries, surely not because some provider in some country announces some changes - these kind of matters normally belong in some kind of a 'rumours-section' - my opinion only

          Re: Is the end coming

The article mentions the price of broadband and BT is offering free football to make its
broadband more attractive and not Tesco but the fact is that you also have to look at the
cost the of the various tv packages too, when you start to add them up the cost soon goes
up eg HD channels, movies, sports, entertainment etc..

The way I see it is that with cheaper broadband it means of our cost in the U.K for the CS
community also goes down, is it the end, not likely just makes it cheaper.

            Re: Is the end coming

Until we get gigabit broadband I don't think we will get a threat to SAT providers, streaming in HD by everyone would be too expensive for broadband providers.

The good thing is that this move should force satellite providers to lower their prices and offer better deals for existing customers.

I think this move by tesco, coupled with bt offering free sports, etc with their broadband could start a price war. Let's hope it means lower prices all around.

A satellite dish is and will always be the most reliable and efficient way of TV for the apparent future. There is no way stream TV will take over it anytime soon due to the ridiculous amount of different ISPs, poor services, problems (one minor problem can take away a customers TV for 25 mins which is enough to miss an important programme!).

Generally, most channels that are on cable are covered on satellite anyway so this whole topic will not be an issue in my opinion anytime soon. If still in doubt, consider the rural areas of parts of countries where they cannot even pick up a 1mb internet connection!

Anyway, I think it's wrong thinking to technologies like alternative or worse in war.
In the future they will be more and more integrated, like as you said they are already in competition on business path...

This is logical, if it adds up it will not just be sheer 2 pounds a month..!!!
                    It would be quite contrary...
The only real cheap way to watch so much channels almost free for what they offer is CS.

One good idea is present in new ******* VOD thematic channels where you can subscribe by a fee!

Nothing to worry but something to be happy if you ask me. i think all entertaining companies are focus on live sport etc cause its the only one that you cannot get from the internet (at least live and good quality). all other movies series shows can be downloaded and watch anytime you like. those companies know it and the only way to fight it its to lower the price. the other way it to make a package offer that you cannot refuse like internet-phone-tv, so you basically you pay 2 and get 3. As far for the future of SAT it will still be the king cause it offers everything for so little cost.

                        hi

all true, in general sat is the best (I agree 100%), but ... here in Belgium (and apparently the Netherlands too) the 'satproviders' are really making a mess of it (very poor quality, gone to 8psk, very bad support, ...), sat wasn't very popular here, and I have the impression lots of sat-clients are sadly changing back to cable ...

Yes this is a big problem here too, almost all the sport channels are going cable or terrestrial and N0v@ is turning channels to HD and from what they say after they change all the receivers the will make it real hard to get the card.

Satellite signal has 100% coverage. Cable TV or Fibre Optic Broadband will never be in villages and low populated areas.

In UK for some period there was an idea of FreeSat but I think these days FreeView getting more popularity and beats satellite for less demanding people especially with addition of HD channels.

                                Re: Is the end coming

What it will boil down to is the cost of putting a sat into orbit something like 200 million euro's plus upkeep of some thing 23k miles away, they have to be constantly monitored and that costs a lot of money.
Cost of putting a main frame server in about 1 million euro, And you can get to it in a car or van,
There is more profit for the suppliers with a main frame server. also they have control over who watches the programs till someone comes up with a way of distributing from a router to other router.
But that would not be practical at the cost of the monthly £2 fee and you still have your broadband for that price.
You cannot reduce sat viewing fees when you have such a cost of starting up, even if your only renting a transponder on a sat, plus also it can be hacked as you all know unless you have valid subs.
And when the cost of getting a legit supply from a broadband supplier undercuts the cost of a non valid supplier who wins.
And you all need the broadband connection for your box to work not like in the old days just program a pic card, but you needed a connection to do even that.
It is all down to profit.
