Are they ok to use and do they automaticall switch lnb or could they damage something .

Has anyone heard of them before and whats your opinion, For less than £5 i cant go wrong but dont want to risk damaging my box.

The most diseqc switches have an insertion loss of 2-5db
This is a very small number and hardly you can the difference.

As long as your cable run is not excessively long (>30m)
the diseqc switch attenuation will not affect you.

in my opinion its not a good idea to put the Diseq switch behind the receiver or in the room because in that case you will be using lots of cable e.g if you are using 4 LNBs then you have to carry 4 cables to your room. But if u leave the Diseq switch outside with some protection from the rain then in that case you will only need one cable from Diseq switch to receiver.

            You are right mate
It's better to use the diseqc switch outside and not behind the receiver because of the lots of cables.
I use 4 diseqc switces for 16 lnbs and more than 30m cable from dish to box.
Do you imagine what could happened in my home with all these cables?
If you use a good cover for rain and other weather conditions, you will be ok

My Reply was merely a suggestion ,NOT a recommendation, for people who are not familiar with Diseqc switches it is sometimes easier to do thing on the ground as it were rather than having to do it outside on a ladder or on a roof where there are safety issues to be considered, you are both obviously experienced from your postings but this is not always the case.

              Regards Mobley3

That's the reason why my dish is near the ground in my garden.
                I use 3 older (5 to 10 years) 4in1 diseqc1.0-switches for 3 receivers in the house.
No problems until now although the switches are in snow and rain for all the years. The signal-loss is very low and I'm using 50m (!) cables behind the switches to the receivers.

Unless you like to use 2 receivers with one lnb.

extra info on this: then the options for each lnb are only 1 cable inside and use the loopthrough function of one receiver - or twin lnb, then each lnb has 2 cables to the receivers (1 cable to each receiver).
