Are Satellite switches any good ?

Just seen on ebay that they sell satellite switches, Ones that connect to more than one lnb.

I have 2 dishes, one is permanent on 28E the other i move round manually and i dont mind doing that.

If i got one of these switches it would save me changing the f connection on my S11 when i want to watch something on 19e.

Are they ok to use and do they automaticall switch lnb or could they damage something .

Has anyone heard of them before and whats your opinion, For less than £5 i cant go wrong but dont want to risk damaging my box.

Sounds like you are talking about a Diseqc switch, to answer your question yes they are, I use 2 myself one for motorised and one fixed, similar setup
to yourself, to 2 different receivers. you will get a slight loss through them but if you have a decent signal then it should not prove a problem. If you do purchase one allocate the fixed dish first, it then removes that sat from the list and makes it easy to set the other sats, you should find a setting for Diseqc in the receiver set-up.

yes they can do your job, some of them are not so good and you may have a signal loss but no damage is reported so far on the receiver in any case.

You are welcome M8, you can put the switch inside behind the receiver with a short lead to the box, or outside as most of them are covered,if you put outside remember to seal the F connectors. I prefer inside as it means less chance of water ingress.

Only one thing: it looks like the description made by the seller is not very technical, perhaps it'd be better you look for more serious source.
Another thing: the Diseqc will have to be integrated in your channel list: this way you'll switch automatically (channel by channel) from one dish to another.

              Leveller.
most people use a Diseqc Switch x 4, enables fast switching for chns between 4 sats, eg, 28e, 19e, 13e, 5e.

That's the cheap and usefull variant (less than 10 Euros) with diseqc 1.0.

For more sats diseqc 1.2 with 8 sat in 1 switch (~15 Euros). The most better receivers support this. Perhaps possible for you with 2 dishes.

                  hi guys

true, I use the same (for 4 sats), the switch itself can be cheap, but don't forget that you need extra lnb's for each extra sat ...

I think it is better to use Diseqc Switch x 8 or Diseqc Switch x 16.
There are more options and possible reserves for future use.

or ... go for motorised, the 28E can be kept fixed, the motorised one for the rest ...

                        Hi @Leveller

You can't damage your box mate.
this diseqc is used for changing from a channel in one satellite to another channel to other satellite.

Prorably you have found a 4x1 diseqc switch that allows you to put a 4 different lnb.
Before you buy it, and do anything I would like for you to keep in mind something...

You can add more than one lnb to a dish but the size of your dish must be big enough to receive a strong signal.
If you try to add an lnb to a very small dish you will propably never get a signal.

so, if you just want this diseqc to combine the 2 lnb's , you can proceed without any problem, but if your dish size is small and you want to add more lnb's... remember the limitations.

Is it possible to use a motorized dish connected to a diseqc switch?
Maybe it depend on your receiver, my receiver has not this option.

Of course you can use a fixed dish and a motorized dish connected to a diseqc.
In dreambox Im sure that you can, by selecting non stantard diseqc setup.
Make a second search in diseqc setup of your receiver.

Most modern Receivers should have this facility,I use it as do many others, maybe re-check in Motor settings.
