    Re: Intermittent freezing

Yeah i dont have the quickest 1mb d/l 0.37 u/l as i live in a little village far from the exchange but i do have a steady ping of 56ms and i was led to believe that his was the most important thing. The strangest thing is that it can be fine for 45 mins and then it will start freezing and if i reboot the router it will be ok again for a while. It is better on some packages than others Sly uk is pretty much unwatchable. Digiturk will last for an hour, Sly DE & IT will work for about 25 mins. JSC Sports are usually ok constantly. Sometimes the HD channels are better than the SD sometimes the other way round. As i said it has happened with all the premium servers i have tried.

Check your ping time and the cpu load (both things from a command shell of the box itself) just when you start experiencing freezes.
Repeat the same when you have smooth vision.
I'm sure you should notice some differences.

From a command prompt of your pc (windows or linux ... it's the same):
            Code:
            telnet ip_of_your_box
login with userid = root and password you_know_your_root_password
Do that twice, so that you have two command shells and can execute two different busybox commands.
            On the first shell:
            Code:
            top
            On the second shell:
            Code:
            ping -t www.******.com
            That's all mate.

That is also true, but becuase 0.37 is such a load upload response speed, anything that happens on the connection, whether it is the isp themselves sending data, or a wifi phone connection, or someone opening up a web page on a computer, it will lead to minor freezes on the faster packages. It kicks briefly in a sense. Perhaps, the packages that are slow don't give you problems becuase they don't need such a "constant" and fast response time.

But it may not be this at all, and could be software issues but if one package does work flawless with 0.37 and another doesn't then it is usually not enough speed or software issues...

                  Re: Intermittent freezing

                  Smells like a faulty router

I think it's not normal all to be ok for 45 min and suddenly started freezing.
Then reboot.... all ok for 25 min....and again freezing...

When you have this freezing problem, Did you notice any problem with internet when you surf?
I mean , can you see any difference in internet speed when this happens at your pc?
Try to ping via telnet when the problem happens.

                  Finally,
I suggest you to try another router.

                    Re: Intermittent freezing

Kalpikos, i have tried 3 different routers and they all do the same, kinda think it probably isn't the router I have also tried with 3 different filters also. I'm rather hoping its some sort of setting that i need to change as i can't think what else is doing it. It mat be something to do with the router settings as i am not an expert. Initially i did not have the MTU settings correct for my ISP and when i set that to their recommended settings it was better but still not right. Maybe its just my ISP i am with Talk Talk does anyone know if they strangle bandwidth for c/s

First time I hear something like that
How do they know that you make cs ?
I think is illegal for an isp to trace users

i know that some ISP make traffic shaping for downloads but in the case of CS i have never listened something about that.

Some providers filter P2P services like Em*le but CS is different from p2p and also has much less users

                                He didn't say.
I only meant that if changes the house and get negative response, he can't state if it's the receiver or not.
With positive response he can only state that receiver and server are ok, but router and internet connection are still undetermined.
