How does it achieve this, ? there is no Audio connection on a DVI plug to my knowledge, does it have a second cable connected
in to the HDMI plug end ?.

some of the older flattvs had dvi ports... i had a philips 32" which had only dvi and scart ports... i had to stream the audio seperatly because dvi only puts video through... (but it gives two versions of dvi, dont remember really dvi-a and dvi-b, the second one can video + audio but ****** for more information)

            take hdmi

Think it is a specially adapted cable which carries the video and audio from the dm800 and has hdmi on the other end.

Here is a thread on it.

Re: What is basic difference between DVI & HDMI ports

Hi, I just recently bought a DVI to HDMI cable to play PC/Sat/Games through my TV. All & all the video quality is amazing and at full 1080p 1920x1080 it's very impressive with optical support.
                helped use "Thanks"

I have another cable, not supplied with the decoder, which I use for a computer
I'll try to see if what is different

Re: What is basic difference between DVI & HDMI ports

Well basically HDMI is "High Definition Multimedia Interface".

It is a connection that carries both, over a single cable, digital audio and video, is the one used in the Blu-ray, DVD's in some media discs and devices that are FullHD. You can view the HDMI here.

The DVI connection, means "digital visual interface".

There are many multimedia discs with this connection, computers (video cards), there are also DVD's ... This connection is also digital and can be used for high definition, but only video, ie the device, whether the it must have another connection, whether optical, coaxial, etc, etc, to the sound.

Here lies the difference, while one (HDMI) we have it all in one cable, with the other (DVI) only have the video and we should put a second cable.

I hope this has cleared the doubts of many.

                    Best regards.

Re: What is basic difference between DVI & HDMI ports

I did the test with the cable I have on my computer and the audio works (clone dm800 hd pvr with hdmi dvi and without).
I think the pins on the DM800 are such as to transmit the audio (because it works without any other audio connection)

i guess the wire you use looks like the black one on the left that is upside your post. if you have a closer look those wires are not the same (i have both) the black one has some pins on the center and my guess is that those pins are for the sound. most of dvi were made for use with pc screens that why the look like the wight one.

Re: What is basic difference between DVI & HDMI ports

Features specific to HDMI, such as remote-control, audio transport, xvYCC, and deep-color, are not usable in devices that only support DVI signalling. However, many devices can output HDMI over a DVI output (examples: ATI 3000-series and NVIDIA GTX 200-series video cards),[7] and some multimedia displays accept HDMI (including audio) over a DVI input. Exact capabilities vary from product to product.

What you say may be true, but my genuine dream Multimedia 8000 has a DVI to Hdmi cable and no other cable is required to get audio and video through to the TV or Home cinema receiver.

Basic diference is that in past DVI doesnt transfer audio, but in some cases DVI does transfer audio also.
But if you whant to buy reciver you shuld buy one with hdmi port.
