I do not think you will find many Satellite receivers with DVI, it has always been more of a computer connection, HDMI is the main connection for most receivers and also most other peripherals ie. TV, Blu-Ray, I think you should be looking at HDMI for future proofing.

Any differences between DVI and HDMI.. DVI stands for Digital Video Interface. HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface.

It means if dvi is only output for video then ll we use other or second cable for audio? Because in some satellite receivers only dvi output it means i will use two different cables one for video and other for audio.

The main difference between HDMI and DVI is that the HDMI connector smaller in size, the interface is equipped with technology the HDCP copy protection, and also supports the transmission of multi-channel digital audio signals.

HDMI is the best and most common port. one wire does it all (sound and picture). DVI was 99% for PC and yes you need an extra wire like optical wire etc to have sound. I search for a satellite receiver with only dvi and didn't find any are you sure? tell us a model to check it out maybe you got something wrong.

                HDMI:

                - will be developed
                - supports various sound systems (ac3, dts...)
                - is protected (hdcp)
                - pure digital
                - has different plug sizes

The hdcp-protection causes a little time for handshake (disadvantage)

                  hi

you won't find much dvi anymore - know some tv's had also dvi (before the real introduction of hdmi), I found the image of dvi was of same quality of hdmi - indeed for dvi extra audio cable is needed, best to use a digital optical cable anyway (with both dvi and hdmi) for the best sound.

DVI is mostly used by company for theire monitors as it gives better video qualiy then vga. Also it is a good alternativ to use with dokignstastion, as most of the new dokcing stastion support dvi.

In Europe either DVI -HDCP or HDMI is included in the HD ready in-store labeled products and there is no signal difference between DVI -D video and HDMI video...

Re: What is basic difference between DVI & HDMI ports

I believe you have confused the DVI output from a satellite box with something else. It is unusual for a satellite box to output a video signal only which is what a DVI does. HDMI can carry the highest possible resolution which is 1080p and audio too.

While DVI is Primarily found in computers, HDMI is USUALLY distressed for consumer electronic devices......

i believe that too, maybe if he tell us the model of the receiver to have a look at the output on the specifications. i never saw a satellite receiver with only DVI.
