Re: recieving english channels in spain/Astra 2F

All of the BBC's ITV's and Five's have now migrated to 2F from 1N, some reports are coming in that they are still receivable in most places.

      Taken from
      Code:
      http://www.ses.com/4628845/astra-2f
      ASTRA 2F

ASTRA 2F delivers next generation broadcast, VSAT and broadband services in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and carries Ku- and Ka-band payloads at the prime orbital location of 28.2°East.

      Footprints:
      Europe Ku beam.

      UK Ku Spot beam

      West Africa Ku beam

      Key data

      Orbital location 28.2°E
      Coverage West Africa, Europe
      Launch date 28 September 2012
      Launch Vehicle Ariane 5 ECA
      Design Life 15 years
      Satellite Manufacturer EADS Astrium
      Polarisation Ku-band: Linear
      Ka-band: Linear
      Total Transponders Ku-band: Europe:
      48; Africa: 12
      Ka-band: 3

At the orbital location 28.2ºE there are the follow sats:
Eutelsat 28A (Sky bouquet All Spain coverage)
Astra 1N (Sky bouquet and Freesat bouquet UK coverage only)
Astra 2A (Sky bouquet Southern Europe and Northern Europe coverage)
Astra 2B (Sky bouquet Southern Europe and Northern Europe coverage )
Astra 2F (Freesat bouquet UK and MultiTv bouquet West Africa)

This information taken from lyngsat, updated.

I don't know if nearly Astra 2F will have more coverage all over Spain, but nowday there is no coverage for this sat in Spain. But the orbital location 28,2º is available with many channels for the "Peninsula Iberica".

      Best regards.

Reports from southern Spain and Portugal do not look good. In the Costa Del Sol and southern Portugal 1.2 metre dishes could get Astra 2D, now there is no signal at all reported on 2 metre dishes.
Murcia and Alicante regions are the same as the old 2D or better, Barcelona much worse.

Does not look good for ex pats in Spain using satellite dish.

Not looking good for my proposed move to Southern Spain in a few years. Don't think I could live without sly uk sport coverage.
Really is bad news for all the expats.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here first off 2F is currently only hosting the Freesat channels only and there has been no mention of any of the sky package going over onto that bird that is what 2E and 2G are for next year, 2F is primarily for releasing 1N only

And i highly doubt Sky would want to lose millions of ex-pat customers in southern spain, its all rumours

              Hi Rugrat

I live near torrevieja you need at least a 1 metre but even that might be a problem going forward because of new sat they launch 2 months ago we are still waiting for definate answer. I install everything in and around this area if that is a help.

Our house is about an hour or so from Murcia and the recommended size was 1.8M according to the Locals, I have a 1.2M in the UK so I think I should start saving up!
I am lucky in that I have room for a big dish but I think the OP should reconsider where to move to. Why not go for a freehold where you make the rules?
I hate being told that I can't do something.
On the other hand, I don't have it myself, but don't Sky do something that lets you watch TV on your mobile? Some mobiles now have HDMI output, so maybe that might be an option??

That is called sky go and is only available to subscribers in the u.k.
                    Well, officially anyway.
You could use a vpn, but then you would still need to subscribe to sky.

                      Footprints:
But remeber that this are the pictures for an exactly focused dish (e.g. with motor). If you use multifeed on one dish you need a bigger dish. 10 degrees beside the focus (on a multifeed dish) means that you need a dish with nearly double surface (not double diameter - based on the focus characteristic of the dish).

I use satbeams to get a good idea of dish sizes.

For example the European Beam for Astra 2F is hxxp://www.satbeams.com/footprints?beam=7492
Left click on your location and it will advise of dish size..

Some areas of greenland require only an 85cm dish.
and if your lucky an live is a small section of Morocco, 110cm dish
                        Or Corlu in turkey, 110cm

                        Surprised, i was.
Dislikes the Chinese Openbox Receivers, so much..
