recieving english channels in spain/Astra 2F

hello all i am considering retiring to spain.

my idea was to take my spiderbox hd9000 and a 80cm dish moterised set up.

however a friend has told me the apartment complex i wish to live at does not allow SATELITTE DISHES to be fitted externally , which is a real blow to me, i do not know if there is anything on thev market which recieves sat siignals but is not obviously a dish?

if i go for subscription as in the uk(sky or virgin) i believe canal+ or sky is avaliable ? butb this i assume would all be all spanish dialogue with no option to change language as with sat recievers.

i am not sure/how to acsses bbc /itv etc from abroad using the internet .

    thank you

Re: recieving english channels in spain?

Depends where In Spain you're talking. Some regions you'd need a very large dish of 1.8 m plus to get UK telly. Some an 80cm might do.
Canal + or digital + is the satellite provider out there and they do have original language option. So most movies, etc should have English audio option as well.
But if you're into epl football or rugby, you might be disappointed.

a lot of people are having the same problem in cyprus also,i have 270cm dish there, not much viewable now from 28east, a lot of expats have tried a system (net) easyvis**n, but not cheap, only snag was cytanet (there anyway) many users, slowing internet speed, (so i was told).
why cannot you put dish on roof, if flat?
and surely if you had a lot bigga dish you could still perhaps receive, all depends on the dish size or footprint.
sometimes you have to bit the bullet. ******===expattv

Sorry Toby, perhaps you've already seen these photos I've posted after holydays in Crete...
These are even too much...anyway I think that if there is some restriction, stuff like that will not be welcome on our friend spanish roof...

yes can agree with some restrictions etc,
but many apartment roofs, in cyprus that is, did have the minimum dish required 270cm to receive 28e chns, (but not able now) tighter beams, our good member rikksow here used to install them.
my dish on the ground, as we have a fair ammount of ground,(in avatar) but 1 dish opposite our apartment has on roof, not to worry thou, if rugrat does his homework there are many other satellites to chase and many chns in english, depends if you will miss the soaps, corrie etc, i wont.
          ------------------

yes seen your pics when you posted them.

You could also access iPlayer, etc by using a UK based vpn server.

              Very good idea!
Also using Zattoo (with a swiss VPN) you will enjoy major english, german, italian, french and of course swiss channels.
              Really you don't even need a VPN...it's enough a proxy...and not anonymous...
              IP check is very light...

                  hi rugrat

some tips (only referring to sat/dish):
                  - as said above: most packages offer original languages in movies - sometimes in series - mostly not in sports
                  - languages can be checked with eg lyngsat or king of sats
                  - about which dish you need: check eg satbeams
                  - I don't think you can have official subscriptions if you live in another country than de package provider - so a bit 'creativity' needed if you want to do this
                  - if your setup and reception is ok: why not try with satlover clines (free or even better: premium).

Sorry, no experiences with internet tv ...

I used to live in Cyprus and went back recently and most of my friends use Film On (www .filmon.com) which has all the uk terrestrial channels for free, so long as your internet connection is quick enough (we were watching with a 2mb connection with barely a glitch) I did also see on fleabay the other day someone was selling a satllite dish with a built in lnb that looks like a boom mic rather than a dish. I have had a look again but can't find it so sorry don't know who makes it but someone on this forum might know

I know x pats that live over there and one the returned recently said to get sky U>K they had to use a large 1.5mtr dish, the local sky reseller helped them set a system up.
I would just watch hispisat 30w that would give you the best chance with a small dish ,plenty in English to watch on canal digital.

Re: recieving english channels in spain?

Many of Spain's building has one or more dish (foreign holidays house too). Spanish channels are broadcasted by Astra 19.2°E satellite and Hispasat 30°W satellite. BBC and other are transmit by these two satellite.
You can also consider to add a dish on the top of your building with a dedicated cable or adding a sat to existed centralized distribution system (not probably of course).

Otherwise you can buy a "Flat Dish", it appear like an air conditioning system!!!! You can buy with output for 1, 2 or 4 tuner - 4 tuner for single device or centralized system with an active amplifier/distributor.
In any case buy also a diseqc switch to connect your dedicated 28°E sat with building sat.

All visible satellite TV from Spain

We will try to catch up with this monograph on satellites that we receive from Spain.
An update necessary due to the constant changes that occur throughout the year: launching new satellites, new channels, modification of emission parameters, orbital position changes ...
The list is ordered by reference to the orbital position of the satellites, starting from the East to the West.
                          *
                          57º East NSS 12
The NSS 12 is a satellite operator New Skies Satellite (an SES), positioned at 57 degrees East. From Spain we can receive only its beam "Middle East". This comes to our country with a power (EIRP) of 47 dBW, which involves using antennas 80 cm diameter up. This satellite is not received in the Canaries, but if Baleares.
                          *
                          Express AM22 53 ° East
In Spain we can receive multiple beams of the satellite: the "Europe", which comes with 48 dBW, the "Wide Europe", which is 47 dBW, and S2, with about 45 dBW power. For proper reception using an antenna should be at least 80cm (recommend 1 meter) in diameter. The beam S2 is the only covering a bit Islands, arriving with an output of just 42 dBW, so your reception is a bit complicated in the islands. The Express AM22 emits mainly Russians and Arab channels
                          *
                          Yahstar 1A 52.5 ° East
The Yahstar 1A is a new satellite, launched less than a year, it has several transponders in C-band, Ku and Ka. Your coverage of Spanish territory is pretty good. The bundles that we receive are the "Europe" with an output of between 46 and 50 dBW, and the "West", with an output of 46-48 dBW. Its reception is possible with an antenna of 80 cm. In the Canary Islands, their reception is possible, but with larger diameter antennas as we are in limit EIRP footprint and announced by the operator is just 44 dBW. The 1A Yahstar transmitted mainly Arab channels, some in HD.
                          *
                          45 ° East Intelsat IS-12
A satellite that beams are oriented towards Europe, South Africa and India, so that Spain is received perfectly with antennas from 60 cm since the signal comes with a power of 50 (to the south) and 52 dBW (north ). In its European beam, channels transmitted mainly Bulgarians, Russians, Romanians or Arab, coded and open. Unable to receive from the Canaries.
                          *
                          Turksat 2A/3A 42 ° East
Satellite transmits almost exclusively Turkish channels. From Spain we can only see the channels broadcasted in the beam "Spot West". This comes with a capacity of between 45 and 50 dBW, so we recommend an antenna at least 80 cm, especially in southern Spain. In the Canary Islands can not receive it.
                          This Hellas Sat 39th February
This satellite has an optimal coverage of the entire Iberian Peninsula with its beams F1 and F2, whose power in Spain walks around 50 or 52 dBW, allowing your reception with antennas of 60 cm in diameter. The Hellas Sat 2 channels transmitted mainly Greeks and Bulgarians, some of them open. Your coverage does not reach the Canary Islands.
                          *
                          Eutelsat W4/W7 36º East
From the 36 ° East can only receive the signal beam "Eurasian Beam" Eutelsat W7 satellite. This arrives in Spain with 47/48 dBW, so we recommend an antenna of 80 cm for reception. Canary is just on the edge of the beam, with a theoretical output of 40/42 dBW, so your reception will be difficult but not impossible if you can install an antenna diameter of 1.20 meters minimum.
                          *
                          33 ° East Eurobird 3
Satellite with little interest as the single beam (Spot A) who arrives in Spain (with enough power) only emits broadband services via satellite, but no television.
                          *
                          30.5 ° East Arabsat 5A
The Arabsat 5A is the replacement of the old Arabsat 2A, in the same orbital position. From Spain we receive beams "Maghreb" and "Pan Arab" with antennas of at least 90 cm. This satellite channel broadcasts mainly in Arabic.
                          *
                          28.5 / 28.2 ° East Eurobird 1 and Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D
This is one of the core positions in the satellite TV reception at European level. They are actually two different positions, but given their proximity, are often identified as one.
Through this constellation of satellites can receive packets from the BBC, ITV Digital Sky or Freesat. The Eurobird 1, can receive all beams in mainland Spain, but from the Canaries only possible receive the beam "Fixed Beam" coming to the islands with a capacity of approximately 46 dBW. As for the Astra, you can receive the "Southern Europe" and "Pan Europe", with antennas from 60 cm to 90 cm Peninsula and the Canaries.
                          *
                          BADR 26 ° East 4/5/6
These Arab satellite channels broadcast mainly in open channels including several sports or information. Its reception is possible in Spain with antennas from 90 cm in diameter.
                          *

                          23 ° East Thor 2 and Astra 3A/3B
Somewhat peculiar position consists of three satellites. The Thor 2 is at end of life and with an orbit tilted 3.2 ° and can not be received from Spain. The Astra 3A in turn is directed exclusively to the emerging markets of Eastern Europe which is oriented towards the satellite. There remains then the Astra 3B, whose beam "Europe Wide" comes perfectly to Spain where we can receive antennas of 60 cm (in the North) and 90 cm (in the South).
                          *
                          Eutelsat W6 21.6 ° East
From Eutelsat W6 can receive the two beams called "Wide Beam" and Steerable Beam (also called West Africa Beam). The Wide Beam is a beam that covers the whole mainland but loses a lot of power from north to south, from 47-38 dBW. Its reception is somewhat delicate and is best always overestimate the antenna. Unlike others, this comes to the Canaries almost at full power. The "Steerable Beam" also covers the entire national territory Peninsula and Islands with an average power of 41 dBW, so you will have to provide antennas with a diameter of 1.20 meters in both cases.
                          *
                          Astra 19.2 ° East 1H/1KR/1L/1M/2C
Another reference positions of the European satellite television. A position without comment. All satellites of this position can be captured from Spain with an antenna of 60 cm and 90 cm in the Canary Islands.
                          *
15.8 degrees East Eutelsat SESAT 1, 16 and Eutelsat Eurobird W3C and W2M
Another position with several satellites which can be received only two in Spain
Only the W3C and Eurobird reach Spain with a capacity of about 45 dBW half. Its reception antennas is possible with 80 cm or more.
                          *
                          Hot Bird 13 ° East 6/8/9.
Another reference positions for amateur satellite TV on our continent. Not much to say respect and we all know its importance. All satellite position can be received with antennas from 60 cm in the peninsula and 80 cm in the Canaries. The Hot Bird channels transmitted almost everyone, with a significant proportion of Italian and Arab channels.
                          *
                          Eutelsat W2A 10 ° East
A position with limited interest since practically only issues news feeds. Their emissions can be received in Spain with an antenna of 80 cm and 1.20 meters in the Canary Islands.
                          *
                          Eurobird 9A 9 ° East
A satellite with excellent coverage of the Iberian Peninsula since almost all of the territory receives power 50 dBW. Canary meanwhile is also in the coverage area, but with only 40 dBW. We recommend 60 to 80 cm in the peninsula and 1.20 meters in the Canary Islands for the reception.
                          *
                          Eutelsat W3A 7 ° East
It is widely used for satellite broadcast feeds, especially from the UBU and Eurovision. His three beams can be received well in Spain with an antenna of 80 cm. In contrast, in the Canary Islands are only accessible to the beam "Europe A", with an antenna of 1.00 / 1.20 meters in diameter.
                          *
                          Astra 4A 4.8 ° East
Orbital position in which we can see channels mainly Russians, Romanians and Ukrainians. We receive you "FSS" and "BSS" with antennas of 80 cm from the peninsula and 1.20 (minimum) in the Canary Islands.
                          *
                          Eurobird 4A 4.1 ° East
This satellite covers the peninsula with 40 dBW power but now does not transmit any significant channel.

                          0.8 ° East Thor 5/6 and Intelsat 10-02
In this position, three satellites are located: two Thor, belonging to Telenor and IS 10-02, Intelsat property. Of these satellites only do we catch: the Thor 5, we can receive the beam "T2" in the Thor 6, the beam "K2" and the Intelsat 10-02, bundles "S1" and S2 ". In every case we speak of antennas at least 80 cm for a receipt "comfortable".
                          *
                          5º West Atlantic Bird 3
A satellite of interest to Francophones and French channels transmitting packet FRANSAT Satellite DTT. There are also Italian and Arab channels. A new satellite will start to operate in a short time for english channels at 28.2 east. coverage maps may change. people watching english channels with small dishes might not be able to watch it in future. or it could be reverse way. satellite I am mentioning here is astra 2f. I suggest you to get reception reports for this new bird from where you want to relocate.
