I agree, sopcast is a good streaming system, but as I said before, the problem is the web-sniffing.
Oh ok, I was under the impression that that affects the downstream with the upload being used infrequently throughout the stream. Out of interest, what is your upload speed? Mine is 10mb upload.

I have 2mb upstream (ok, not the fastest) but for normal surfig, online-gaming or cardsharing more than enough. But for a HD-upstream this could be very close.

        Re: Sopcast streaming

It is possible to have an acceptable (or good, depends by game you are using) game experience also with a 0.5Mbps upload speed, but different tricks are required:
        1. Connect console directly to your router, don't use hub or swith, nor powerline adapter for console and pc that runs sopcast application.
        2. Avoid wireless connection to have faster response time and, because wireless network is "like" an hub for connection, absolutely do not use wireless connection for sopcast pc if you are using wireless into your gaming console.
        3. If you would connect two different zone of your house that generates a big amount of traffic use a 100Mbps cable, or a Gigabit cable that's better.
        4. Avoid home pc -> to -> home pc transfer if transfer required some time and you have not a QoS system or transfer interest devices that are on the same hub of your console, or use same wireless connection, or other like listed above.

          Re: Sopcast streaming

          Hi, I push up thread.

Today I search sopcast for linux and I found working version (only terminal is supported) and an opensource GUI.
But, unfortunately, sopcast is not open source and only build file are avaliable.

So, it is not possible use sopcast on receiver, only on x86 machine (Intel's and AMD standard CPU).

But is possible to use a PC to receive stream and connect STB to PC to receive retransmission of streamed channel.

I'm working on a guide, when How-to will be finished I'll write it on the forum.

            Re: Sopcast streaming

You could stream from your computer to the STB via VLC player. Just need to get the stream on your PC and then use any media streaming software which will transfer the stream to STB. But why bother when you could watch the same channel on your STB live from the satellite. Just enter a c line and you are good to go.

No, you can do this without vlc, only with sopcast software and you can also use vlc to stream a video file to your stb.

Wait few days, in the weekend I'll publish the guide.

                    Re: Sopcast streaming

Sometimes I wonder about using sopcast on a settop box. I admit its a good internet streamer for broadcasting or football streams but when I use it, I connect my laptop via vga or hdmi directly to my tv.

                            @Knap92: it's true.
I had publish guide in an another section of the site, but this was removed by administrators due to section error.
To write it a long time is required, I'll rewriting it and will publish in that section.
                            Wait

When is ok I'll update post and link.

                            Sorry for the inconvenient.

I've restored the original post and editted it so that it no longer breaks the forum rules (which is why it was removed).

The link should now work as normal.

Ah, the problem was only text dimension!
In fact I did not understand the reason for the cancellation of the thread and also another last month.
                                Thanks for the information.

                                So, now link is working!
