    hi

why don't you use/try an usb-wifi stick? Works fine for me, easy to install and not too expensive.

        hi juekra

I can give you mine (wifi): did a speedtest and was about 10 MB down and 0,5 MB up. I have a normal subscription (not the slowest and surely not the fastest). Will depend on your provider/subscription. To be honoust: my boxes are connected with cable, only laptop/pc with wifi. So about connection/streaming on receiver I have no info.

If I remember well the speed was about the same with the homeplugs (when they worked).

hmmm, I even don't know if it is possible to use wifi on receivers ...

That's the problem I had, which is why I got the homeplugs.
Haven't had any problems since, easy to share media and broadband all over the house.

Re: pros and cons of homeplugs

I think for CS homeplugs are ideal, but for anything that requires a decent speed id stick with a wired connection is possible. But homeplugs are the next best thing.

              1. Wired
              2. Homeplugs
              3. Wifi
              4. Wifi bridge

They knew well before hand but the interests and power of muly media companies is always put first even although it is the little guys who invent and make these things possible in the first place ,they call it progress.

For years the local radio ham battled with unfiltered analogue tv's fitting in line filters for his neighbours ,now that the hobby has more or less died that problem was cured with the arrival of digital tv .
When i switch on my old radio iam bombarded with s9 of man made electronic noise from the neighbourhood my opinion is ham radio has had its day, most like me are more into sat tv and pc's.

Homeplugs would be a good idea for me. I have a low wireless signal signal in my kitchen and was looking for a solution. Easy to install and good signal quality.

Ethernet home plugs are fine, i use them since a lot of time and it work fine.
I did try in every room with a laptop connected to homeplug and all was ok.

I've also did try to get signal at my neighbors but it didn't work at all.

A friend did try the Wifi Plug, but had problems due to 2 walls.

Home plugs are very good in my bedroom the wifi signal was very patchy and got a lot of drop out but with home plugs fixed problem.

Although not recommended using through double plug and 5M extension lead without any problems.

Re: pros and cons of homeplugs

I hate homeplugs with a passion

If you live on a farm in the middle of nowhere they`re great but I get hammered with crap from them when I turn a radio on (I`m an SWL and general radio nut)

They`re not even in my street and they`re giving me sh*t, I know they`re not in my street as I knocked on every door (there is only 8 houses on my street) and asked if they had them, with the intention of fitting them a wired network at my expense and no one would admit to owning any

I had a roll of cat5e there ready to fit but couldnt find the offender

The homeplugs dont need to mention low level noise in the uk as they are not classed as a radio device as such and also because they run on a closed network so to speak I.E. your mains ring so they "shouldn`t" affect anyone outside your mains ring

In reallity they turn your mains ring into a giant antenna spewing shite all over the radio spectrum

God help sat fans when they introduce homeplugs that resonate up near satellite signals! We`ll all start noticing no signal on sat boxes, some models of dect phones will go tits up and wifi will be wiped out too

Also I`ve been told that if upstairs and downstairs have different rings (is that the right way of putting it?) then home plugs wont work between floors, how true that is though, I don`t know
