    pros and cons of homeplugs

I am thinking of trying a pair of homeplugs fed up with trailing leads all round the house are they worth using or are they more trouble than there worth and do they cause low level interference

Homeplugs will suffice for everyday use . If you shift hd content around your home you may meet a bottleneck . My preference is trailing cables which can be solved next time you decorate .

I have my router, pc, xbox, vu+ duo and htpc all connected with solwise 200 Mbps homeplugs, and cannot fault them.
Just by adding a homeplug everytime I get a new gadget, it is instantly on my network and connected to broadband.
Wifi was giving endless hassles, but since adding homeplugs I haven't had any problems at all

I have had two pairs of solways and both have packed up in no time, they are now bricks. I am now having to run a long ethernet cable between my pc & tv. You just can't reset them. On a side note anyone have any clues why?

You must have been unlucky. I've got 5 solwise and the first pair were put in about 2 years ago. Haven't had to touch them since.
Try unplugging them and then plug them in again. Then press the easy connect button on the first one. Then press easy connect button on second one within a minute.

            hi

used netgear (2x) for a few years, then added 2 more (2 different brands) - in the beginning all worked fine, but in the end just problems (disconnecting while turning on a receiver/tv/blu-ray/... ; an IP-camera also worked fine but insn't working anymore.
Really important to be on the same electrical circuit ; also extra devices can cause problems ; I now use usb wifi-sticks (laptops + pc) ; camera doesn't work ; receivers are direct with cable to the router.
Homeplugs of different brands need to be connected with each other (protocol). Not easy but possible (didn't do it myself).

Yeah they did work brilliantly and then they stopped working. I tried all the reset options that i could find and none of it worked, so i bought another pair as i liked them so much and within months the other pair were also bookends.

Had my 3 homeplugs for a few years and not had to reset them once, fine for small bandwidth and maybe one hd stream. I use them when the device didn't have wifi and get a better through put with homeplugs over wifi.
As expected, can compete with cable but works fine. Mine are all 200mb tp-link

I can't see how homeplugs that run through your electric circiut in your house can affect a radio ham?

Maybe i will have another go at unbricking mine. I must admit i really did like them hence buying another pair when the first ones bust. Please don't be put off by my comments. I do concur that they are great.

i dont know whos right or wrong but talking to to the radio ham in the road he said that homeplugs cause interference, which may knock out shortwave radio reception within the immediate vicinity.

Well If you use them in your home, not sure there is much he could do about it anyway.
I don't think it would affect him, but even if it did, It's in your home and your circuit.......

My advice is go and ****** homeplugs and read all about them. I think you'll find Hammy is mistaken I think he is thinking of dongles and the like best to read up first before you confront him.
