thanks for that, do you know what size dish i would need for 10e that seems quite interesting. the amount of options available with a motorised system that i might have to start saving my pennies.

@ rikksow,i'm not too sure about planning permission, but I would recommend a 1.2m. and a motor, don't rush into it,take your time and do it right.

You would not need a planning permission if its in your garden. You can install as bigger dish as you like but make sure that your neighbours have no problem with it. The planning permission rules have been relaxed recently. You can also avoid planning permission if your background is from another country and you need a bigger dish to receive your local channels.

Depending on where you are in the UK then 10° east strong transponders can be picked up on a 80cm

w2a@10east is mainly a turnaround/feed circuit bird and although there are quite a few gems available open atm with b.i.s.s. keys this can and probably will end soon and may/may not become available again. if your saying your looking for general, movies and sports and are saving for a motorised dish then a gibertini 1m, stab 100 and inverto black ultra would be my choice and will get you 90% of whats available for normal money and last you 10+ years. its better to buy quality now than in a couple of years when your cheap stuff has given up the ghost. 1.2m dishes are great but dont come cheap and really require a 36v motor, c120 lnb and feedhorn and a heavy duty wall mount/grount mount and you wont get much change from £500, not to mention the installation and having jodrel bank on your house/neighbours moaning. regards mdt

I would completely agree with this recommendation, I am using a similar system in Dublin and taken as a package, Cost,Performance,Reliability and relative ease of setup you would be hard pushed to find better, just get yourself some good quality T&K Brackets and take your time to make sure the pole is perfectly vertical in both planes and you will be rewarded with many years of enjoyment.

Hi rikksow. Just one advice from me as I have motorised 1.2m dish. Definitely go for 1.2m dish, because if U are not experienced with mounting the whole system, U will never mount the motor perfectly, so your signal will be weaken on some satelites and the fact that England is mostly cloudy and rainy, I think the bigger size of a dish will cover that gaps. Consider that as the difference in price for bigger dish is only few $ for something U will use for years...

There is an alternative...for skint people like me with hungry mouths to feed. While you wait for that next lucrative job offer or for your horse to come in.

My 1.2 dish and motor set me back £20 from a well known auction site. I know they won't last like Stab (or even darkmotor!) but they work.
Yes, I needed some help from the good people on here to get set up but that's what friends are for hey?
And when I'm flush I can upgrade the components bit by bit.

Hi microchick, can you provide some links to any material that confirms your statement on relaxing planning permission rules? As far as I can tell the rules are still strick in England, you can only have two aerials on a property (tv & sat dishes both count as aerials) and size is limited to less than 1m. Also you DO need planning permission if it's in your garden, the rules apply whether it's attached to the house or not.

If you can provide documentation that proves otherwise I'd love to see it as if currently breaking planning permission with my two dishes and one tv aerial and it might save me changing my setup.

I must admit i have been monitoring a certain internet auction site and i think i may go down the piecemeal way getting it piece by piece which is why initially i was going to go down the monoblock route, but then i got so confused. I think for the time being i will see what comes along on the said site. I do think however that i will try and get a 1.2m dish

You might want to double check with your local council planning office about a 1.2m dish. You don't want to spend money and effort putting it up only for a neighbour to complain and then end up having to take it down.

Im assuming you don't live in a listed building or in a designated area of natural beauty?

I'm keeping an eyeon fleebay too, tempted to get a Technomate 2600 or the dark motor for my TD88.

Yeah i think i'll check the council website first, don't live in area of natural beauty or cons area. Live in a bungalow and my house is pretty much screened by tall trees but i have a large garden so i have good line of site but am not overlooked at all so should be ok
