    Sky hd s12

    Hi all

I live in the UK and I am about to purchase a Sky HD s12 box.

Do I need to put an Image on this box so that I can use CCCam that I will purchase to watch sky tv on it?

Also is it easy to set up an external Hard Drive to record all my programs onto?

Is it possible to then watch these programs on my portable hard drive via my computer?

    Thanks all

    Hello,

What you describe can be done with a vu+ solo or any enigma 2 box

      Thanks for the replies.

If I purchase the box where would I download an image for it?

I will then purchase CCCam lines for Sky TV

Or can I just buy the box and plug in and then just purchase a sky package of someone and enter in the details for the cccam and then it will work?

      Thanks

      Sean

For instance with a vu+, you have to flash with the image of your choice and then install cccam plugin.
After that, you just have to put your c line and watch TV.

There is enough tutorials here and on ****** to help you.

          hi

I suggest you read some more here (see topics on VU+, DB and others brands) ; there are server boxes (like VU+, DB) and only client boxes (Mvision and I think Openbox, ...). For 'installing' servers it's more difficult (linux, pc knowledge acquired) ; client boxes are easier (just enter the clines, mostly no installation or Images needed) but less flexible. For testing you can always try with a free cline from here. About external HDD recording: see the specs of the box.

            Hi Sean,

Are you refering to the Openbox S12?

I believe these are plug n play just make sure you have the latest firmware, try out the free clines from this website, then consider paying for a server.

You're much better off getting a dreambox or vu+ solo or duo.
you can do so much more with them and is as close to the sky experience as you'll get.
not to mention a full 7 day epg and plenty of support.

I agree with bokkie, with the box that you are looking at you get what you get and cant realy change anything.
With a good linux box things are added and you can tailor them to what you need.

                  Good luck nml

                    do not agree...

well the support maybe better for more public boxes like the vu+ or dreambox but i dont think this boxes can do more than the others...

i have a sh4 based receiver which can do right the same than a dreambox (which ive seen too) and costs half the money...

even the second os is originally installed with enigma 2 which is the same like dreambox

there is a big choice of satellite boxes, no doubt everyone cannot agree on which box is best, unless they themselves own many varieties which they could test and decide on which best suits there own requirements, each owner will always have there own opinion.

like toby says i think the best thing to do is check out other boxes as well it seems like every other day theres a new box out.

indeed, suggest you do a lot of reading here and on eg ****** ; not only box (specs) is important but also service/feedback/support. This will probable better with common known boxes, but normally these ones are a bit more expensive.

Reading, ... and - good luck!
