    Ideas on New Receiver?

Hi all i have owned various boxes both Linux and non Linux. I have used a Spiderbox for a year or so did what it promised but made me lazy and is not very interesting.
So when the gift ran out I started looking at lines and dug out the old Dreambox 500s it is very good to be working on Linux again.
If I had the money I woud buy a new DM 8000 or 800 but unfortunatly I dont at the moment so I am looking for recommendations for £2-300.00 either clone or original and of course Linux

    nml.

I would be inclined to explore these, as like you, I too am in the market and looking around the same sort of price:

        - Xtrend ET9200
        - VU+ Duo
        - AZBox Me

I am after an STB with a fully working Media Player that also plays stuff over LAN form NAS or PC which is the main reason for my listing above.

        Some ideas to ponder perhaps.

Yes the lan -media player is a must makes life so easy at the mo I am using a networked Sony blue ray for this it's ok but a but the interface is a bit clunky.
Two of the three above are on my list will have a look for the Xtrend, what is your preference so far and have you looked at clones?

          Cheers nml

What about DM500HD ? I use it for more than 1 year without any problems. I hope that it will meet your expectations.

@NML Clones? Yes, I used a DM800HD and three years still going strong. Great box but like yourself am stuck with using an ASUS O'Play for Media play. Just be nice to have it all in one unit that's all.

@sucan Does the 500HD do Media via LAN from PC & NAS?
                    Avi, Xvid, divx compatible?

@rob45 The VU+ boxes do get rave reviews but I have seen so many conflicting comments about its MediaPlay capabilities especially with regard to avi, xvid, divx compatibility. Maybe you can confirm for us whether these formats work and also direct (not streaming) Playback from PC and/or NAS share please?

                        Re: Ideas on New Receiver?

Having owned an ET9000 i can confirm these will play any Xvid,Divx,MKV over network either from dlna setup or NAS, latest model is the ET9200 currently retails at around £359, i also have an Ultimo and a DM800se and these too play files over network no problem.

Ultimo probably out of your price range £529 but a clone DM800se from china works out at around £160 all in.

I have just ordered a Clone VU+ Duo form my local supplier in china just to try as these are now getting very good reports indeed works at at around £190 all in

                        You have plenty of choice.

Thanks Rob. When you get to grips with it please post back your findings. Might be all I need to push me into finally buying a Duo.

                              For an original = VU+
                              For a clone = DM800se
