    Piracey

Storage sites unnerved by Megaupload action

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Storage sites unnerved by Megaupload action

The arrest of Megaupload's founders has led to other file storage sites taking action in an apparent attempt to protect themselves from legal action.

Filesonic has disabled its sharing functions, allowing users to access only their own files.

Uploaded.to has blocked US access to its site entirely, with a message saying "sorry about that".

Experts said that the sites were attempting to show that they were taking piracy seriously.

And how many people said that it could not be done.

    Re: Piracey

People will always find a way round this and other problems. In my opinion the government is going about it in the wrong way. Why not just have a kind of "PRS license"/tax that enables anyone who has it to download anything copyrighted. Royalty could come out of that...one more tax hey but at least the copyright holder gets something

Yes , you are right, every end gives birth to a new beginning. Law of the universe. I think these days are temporary.

I wonder what File serve and Rapid share will do next ?
These are also 2 big ones that are popular these days.
And indeed, why do they not use tax or so ? Like we are paying tax for empty cd's or dvd's.

And in all of this protesting and shutting down of websites, people that actually use those sites legally and for good reasons will suffer.

These sites are the greatest form of free software I would hate to start having to buy it.

If most of these websites go down in the futur,
I believe that more people will start using Newsgroups.

I think it wasn't anti piracy act, it was an act against megaupload founder. I saw him on tv, I think authorities doesn't like some in his behavior.
They actually doesn't like to win the piracy
They want to fight the piracy

I think it's an only protest against restrictions recently seen in the internet and most of them will be back soon.
