    Re: ASTRA 1N is operational.

    from rob satellitepage:

    Dear Mr

Please find below our answers to your questions in as far as we can answer to rumors...

There’s no plan to move 1KR.
ASTRA 1N will be moved to 19.2°E, not in 2012, but later on. More precise date is not public information yet
There is currently no public information about an Astra 2C move.
Transmission on 2D will be transferred on 1N (with same parameters) next year. Exact date is not yet defined... and it concerns only our customers at the moment.
New business on 1N is not public information either. However, we may disclose that ITV will start soon on 2.063 (in the coming days) and on 2.059 (in the coming weeks).

    Kind regards,

Soon 1N will travel to 19.2 E and 1KR will arrive at 28E. Some of us will be happy-othe not.

            Re: ASTRA 1N is operational.

Has anyone noticed that Channel4 HD on Astra 1N has a 100% SNR?
I never seen 100% SNR before.
Very Strong signal compared to others, is this something they have promised before launch?

I hope rather to go to 19.2 so I could see such a good signal

1N is expected to move to 19.2E. If 1KR remain 19.2E more better.

British Channel 4 HD ceased broadcasting via satellite in the European bond at position Eurobird 1 28.5 E and at the same time began regular dissemination via satellite Astra 1N at 28.2 E. with different coverage of Europe. The change was made virtually cut. With the launch of the official distribution, Channel 4 HD on Astra 1N was disconnected data stream via satellite Eurobird 1

I hope it stays on 28.2e , 100% SNR means the signal will be strong even in heavy rain.

28.2E is not a good position to 1N very large part of the beam covers the fish in the ocean.

if astra 1n moves away from 28.2e then that means the british channels will have to stop broadcasting on astra 1n. so are british channels gonna broadcast on astra 1n and then stop broadcasting after a few months? or after few years?

is it like a temporary satellite?

                            Re: ASTRA 1N is operational.

"Nicholas Wilmott: It's a '1'-series because its final intended service position is 19.2°E. It's only filling in at 28.2°E until the proper replacements, 2E, 2F and 2G, are built and launched over the next few years.

There is nothing analogue or digital about the satellites, they just relay whatever is transmitted up to them from the ground. The first digital tests at 28.2°E were from Astra 1D, moved there at the end of its service life for that purpose. Astra 1 satellites at 19.2°E (and 2C, which has had a history of being moved here there and everywhere) now carry a mix of analogue channels and digital multiplexes on the various transponders. The remaining analogue channels have been told to move to digital before being shut down next year.

As I said, 2C is at 19.2°E, and could presumably have been moved back to 28.2°E if it was still suitable. However, that only has a single pan-European beam, and the demand is for UK-only footprint. Presumably the UK spot beam got added some time in Astra 1N's construction, too late to push up 2E to an earlier launch.

We still don't know how many of 1N's transponders can use UK-only footprint. In frequency terms, several of the transponders would overlap with Eurobird 1 (28.5°E, close enough to effectively be part of the Sky and Freesat platforms) or with 2A or 2B."

Channel 5+1 is now broadcasting on 1N. It may come up as 7720.

This plus 5* and 5 USA should go FTA on 6th December 2011.
