    Skybox F5 dead??

    Hi all!
I have an skybox f5, and it seems dead.
The red led on the display near the channel numbers is on, but not number appears, and i feel a smell of burned electronic component (maybe some condensator).
Someone of you have a similar break?
    What advice you give me?

    Thank you

Open it up and check the pcb for a blown capacitor.

        Re: Skybox F5 dead??

        Ok,
done, it seems no blown capacitor.
It seems all "normal" i have to unmount all condensators and test them?
I have counted 6 of 220 micro Farad 25V and 19 of 100 micro Farad 16V and 3 of 4,7 micro Farad 16V and some square flat component (i don't know what is) in the upper of one is written 220 on other 3 is written 100....

@pan1100: I have already tried the recovery, but nothing happened and the smell of cooked electronic components suggest me that there is another problem.

        Thanks

cannydo is right if it was blown capacitor you would have noticed it straight away, tell me
what happens when you use recovery method? messages?

You could check each component for continuity with a multimeter.
            Then replace as needed.

              Re: Skybox F5 dead??

@mahrkpat: When i tried to recovery nothing appears, the program still wait the connection with the decoder, and the smell of coocked incease. i have turned all off before lose any hope!

@cannydo: Is necessary unmount completly all the components to test them?
if i test when mounted maybe i can have a false read?

              Thanks

                Re: Skybox F5 dead??

Capacitors can be tested by removing one leg from the pcb, other components must be isolated to test correctly.

I would do this to find the fault rather than replacing them all.

                  @cannydo: Ok i'll try.
You know what kind of electronic component is, in the red circle in the picture?
I think the first condensator to check is that near the misterious component, it seems me suspicious....

                  Thanks

the fastest you have a problem with the power supply, must be disconnected to check all connectors.

                      Hi zaganis

Maybe the power supply has the problem.

Are you sure that the smell is coming from the box?
If yes, look very carefully again for something burned in the motherboard.
The smell means always bad news.

@KVF1966,@kalpikos: Yes i'm sure the smell came to the motherboard. The first thing i have to do is check the power supply testing it. 12,26V polarity correct!
I hope to limit the damage to some condensators...

                          Thanks

It is a 22UH SMD power inductor.

Try resizing your image then edit your post amico, it is causing big screen blowout!

Ok thank you, i'll search more information about the power inductor.
Sorry but 22 micro Henry or 220 micro Henry? Is stamped 220...
