    Re: Skybox F5 dead??

They are very cheap, 1€ or so and readily available at most good electronic component shops.

    Is it the faulty component?

@cannydo: I don't know.. I have to buy (first of all I have to find..) the components at the end of the week, I work far from where i live and where i work there are not stores of electronic components..
Thank god this is my second skybox and i am not in a hurry..

        hi zaganis

ok, a bit off topic, but hey, why not buy this online (*bay or so), surely if they only cost a few EUROS ... -worst thing that could happen, you loose some EUR ...

          Re: Skybox F5 dead??

          Hi all!
some update... this morning I am gone to buy the components, and I have taken only the condensators because the clerk said me the 22UH SMD power inductor hardly to fail.
I have changed the two condensators near teh power inductor, but nothing happens.
Now I'm thinking to test the power inductor (Monday).
I have Looked better the circuit and now a question haunts me.
In the red circle is missing an condensator?
I have taken more condensators of necessary and i can put it in the pcb, if I know the value...
Someone can check into his decoder F5 to verify if there is the condensator and his value?

          Thanks

I don't think that component is missing, this is very common in electronics appliances.

On the other side, I think that something is going wrong...

I found on the net a photo of the motherboard of skybox f5 that shows the missing capacitor.

I know that the image is not very clear, but you can see the missing capacitor in red circle.
I don't know it's necessity and why your receiver doesn't have this component but is very strange.

You know what kind of electronic component is, in the red circle in the picture?
I think the first condensator to check is that near the misterious component, it seems me suspicious....

                Thanks

                hello,
that "misterious component" is an inductance.
It works togheter with the chip near it and with the capacitor near it.
It is a switching system... Check with a tester if between the positive pin and negative pin of the capacitor is present some voltage.
I think it should be 5 or 3.3 or 1.2 volts.

The best should be to use an oscilloscope, because with this device you can see if the switching is working good or not.

                  Thank you,
I have opened my working Skybox (i use it where I work), and actually post seems the condensator is missing (220 micro Farad 25V).
Now I don't have a welder, but tomorrow I'll try to solder the condensator and i hope after it works..

                  Regards!

                    Re: Skybox F5 dead??

So, it seems that it's really missing.
                    But, why this is happened?
                    Where is it?

I'm very curious if this is a manufacturing error and the capacitor never was there, or a problem with the melting of the motherboard cause the capacitor to unstuck and fell down when you were searching for burning materials on the motherboard.

                      Hi guys!
some update for my f5, i have added the "missing" condensator and replaced the inductance.
But on my electronic shop i have found a different inductance, it appears like a resistor, but same impedence the seller say me the resistance may be different...
I have placed it anyway, but when i have powered on the decoder is burned, maybe too much voltage?
Now (after a little trip with my family) I'm back and I have only to find the same inductor, hoping all the other components are good..

@kalpikos: yes the condensator was missing, maybe a factory error...

                      Regards!

                        Hello

It was very risky what you have done.
I hope you have burn only the inductor and not the other components.
Try to find the same inductor and replace it, hoping that it will work.

some update for my f5, i have replaced the inductance.
But my decoder don't turn on, I have see the component near the inductance is hot.
Is an high efficiency synchronous step-down converter ETA1485-E8A.
I have found the data sheet, but i don't know where i can buy it, or how replace with an equivalent.
If someone can help me, i'll try to go on, otherwise patience ... Thanks anyway for your help.

                            Hello zaganis

It's a pity that your box still can't work.

I would go a walk to a specialist electronic to take it a look.
They have special tools for measuring and of course more knowledge from as

                              hi all,
                              new to this forum.
Can someone give me a guide as to how to remove the lid of the skybox f5s as my box is also dead and I suspect some blown caps as well.
                              cheers.

Edit: I know it is a dumb question but I can't see any screws and I don't want to snap any plastic clips on the lid.

                                Ok,
I managed to get the box open with NO help from this forum...

So can anyone help with a circuit diagram of the Skybox F5S?

The power supply section might be a nice start.
