This is what triggered the discussion. There is no way to upgrade the cccam version of Openbox S9 without a new firmware from the factory. What I hear is that it is very unlikely as they are more focused on newer boxes like the X3/F3.

I use those sites and I know which have footprints over Dhaka. I just don't know which ones, if any at all, are in the free lines of this forum.

I just haven't found the combo...footprint coverage + coverage of the free lines from this forum.

it's always a guess what's open (and what's the stability) - as said: you can search on eg 'cccam channelinfo', sure you'll find an indication.

it's always a guess what's open (and what's the stability) - as said: you can search on eg 'cccam channelinfo', sure you'll find an indication.

Followed your advice and went there to download download a rar containing the info. To do that I needed to register but they kept banning my email addresses. Tried three addresses and all got banned. I guess it has something to do with where I live.

There is not going to be official firmware upgrade for the openbox s9 to s16 all one can hope for is for an unofficial one for any new features.

right, the odds are very small to have 'useful' official firmware - mostly some creativity is needed for hobbiests to find alternative firm - forums like this may be very handy for this - I'm sure as soon as someone finded something, it will be announced/posted here - patience ...

I had tried that... apparently the free clines do not work with anything Ku with subcontinent footprint. I tried Dishtv on 95e and 100.5E, SunDirect on 93.5E and 91.5E, BigTV on 91.5E, VideoconD2H on 88E and TataSky on 83.5E.

I do not have a C-band dish. Do you have any idea which package is available via satluver free lines that is avilabale available in the subcontinent? If there are good packages available on C-band I might as well buy a dish, even though the huge ugly dish might upset other people in my flat building.

The nearest available Ku band satellites to Dhaka are like Turksat. Badr on 26e, Hotbird 13e, Eurobird 9e, 7e and 3e. You will need a minimum 6 feet dish to receiver. HB is easy to find from subcontinent and the most popular too the rest of them would need a lot of effort. BUT i must assure you if you get any of these satellites, you wont be disappointed as almost all of them open with Satlover c line.
The easy part of your project is that will just need to have permission from the building owner for a BIG dish

I looked into sat beams and lyng sat and according to their footprints I may be able to get Badr from Dhaka but they's be all FTA channels. The rest of the satellites' footprint barely reach Pakistan.

Would you suggest ignoring the the footprints mentioned in the two sites and buying a huge cband dish and plug a ku band lnb?

I have heard that people in Pakistan are able to get 3.0e so they can use it for Twin Protocol. As I said that Its very difficult if you are a newbie. You need lots of experience to get these sats.
I would never suggest to ignore the footprint. Dish size can vary and can be ignores but If there is no footprint then trying would be useless.
There is a strutcural difference between C band and ku Band dish. C band dish is deep whilest ku band dish is shallow. They can be swapped but only if you are getting strong signal.

I had asked the secretary (who happens to be my dad too :P) of the building committee about the rules on what sort of dish are allowed on the roof. He got a book out and said up to 7 feet but if one installs one he or she has to be willing to share the equipment with other residents.

I just did a fresh research, HotBird at 13.0e is receiveable in Dhaka, Bangladesh. You would need a big (about 8ft) Ku band dish though as long as you dont tell the exact size to your dad . If you get a 16 output LNB then 15 other flats can also enjoy Hotbird.
You will also need to have a clear view of the western side.

Hi to all. I have DM500S and want to replace with HD receiver but with low budget. The OPEN Box S11 seems good to me as it price is abot 70 US$. But the biggest doubt here is that I don`t know if there is some addon for S11 for adding subtitles on the movie channel like I have on DM500s with Drtic. Any experience from S9 S10 and S11 owners will be much appriciate. Thank to all...
