Re: What are the major problems of clone DM's?

There are many factories in China which produce DM clones. Some of them produce good boxes, others bad. Temperature is main problem, as well as freezing. I've DM800 original and it worked well until now.

The best now like price is Azbox, it has good sides and bad sides. Good sides are: it is the only full HD box HDMI exit is 1080p instead 1080i of all others, it is multimedia box; can read movies from HDD also MKV files, has ******* and web browser enclosed, can tune professional feeds in 4:2:2 format, and of course can handle most common sharing protocols, can mount inside DVB-T tuner too, price for Elite model is under 240 euros.
Bad sides: the firmware support is not the best (but now seems Enigma2 will be converted for Azbox too), channel's list is not compatible with Dreambox lists, there are many bugs into various firmware versions so the last fw is not ever the best, is bit slow into zapping on HD crypted channels.

There is also Vu Duo+ it is really good box but price is more then 400 euros, but it can be compared to DM 8000 HD that costs double.

You're right the big problem is just they're clones, you can't recognize a good clone to a bad clone before you buy it.

I have installed a couple of clones for friends using Blackhole Image and they are working fine. You cannot update the firmware online as the bootloader would not match. Using a wireless dongle in the USB port makes it impossible to attach the scart, however you can buy a small USB extention lead and problem solved. I only use the scart with portable TV to align dish as you might as well use a SD box with a scart lead. The fan's soon went faulty. Also best fit an external eSata HDD to avoid overheating issue, so the cost of an external HDD Caddy to take into consideration.

I love my new Spiderbox, very easy to set up and use. I will report back once I have had it a while.

In Asia most clones working good. It is true there is more than one factory making these boxes. Some cheaper version have very very low quality components.

Re: What are the major problems of clone DM's?

Major clones problems are on HD receivers, not on SD like 500, this because HD transmissions has high bitrate and cpu must work more and so it has high temperature. Also tuners must be better to receive HD transponders.
Most of problems are on DM800HD clones, this also because the original box project is not perfect.

Re: What are the major problems of clone DM's?

I bought a clone dm800 from a uk distributor and have been really pleased with it.
I bought a laptop cooler from e-bay for about £3.50 and have had no problems whatsoever with overheating.
I have tried most of the images out there both original and clone and although some of them look nicer, better bootscreens etc, I cant see past the open pli images.
Very stable and good picture quality.
Oh, i would recommend that you purchase also an inline amp to boost your signal for good quality hd reception. They are not expensive.
All in all I am well pleased with the box.
