      Hello minoltista

The hdd that you have inside the box increases significantly the temperature.

A good idea is to buy an external usb fan and to place it over your box.
The fresh air will cool your hdd and the dreambox.

Of course, if you want better results you can install a fan inside the box as the link above describes.

As heat is the killer of STB's you need to make sure that there is nothing restricting the flow of air around it, best placed on an open shelf with nothing on top. Also as has been suggested a fan really helps with this problem.

          Thank you for the reply.
Actually i've already user a fan but the noise was too much and i removed.
I'll looking for a less noise one.

Yes, the noise is very annoying but we must be friends with it

Try to find another fan with less noise but to give a good amount of air on your box.

Remember, that a bigger fan can be more efficient and with less noise that a small fan.

              hi minoltista

some while ago we had a thread about fans and alternatives - no time right now to search for it, but try the search function.

                Re: dm800hd very hot

Just find some 12V laptop processor cooler from those old ones, I used AMD's, and connect it inside the box besides the tuner and in place of the card reader slot.
You'll need to remove card aluminum slot inside in order for cooler to fit nicely.
Also one red wire in the back of the receiver needs to be squeezed a bit.
2.5 inch cooler can tightened with forming black wires and connected with the top of the cooler through roof openings.
Cooler has usually two or three wires, black which is 12V and white or ground wire.
12V is soldered with Pin 8 on external scart (you need to open it in order to do it), and Ground is soldered with Pin 21 or the last one on scart after which you need to input Scart into scart slot, and that's it!
If everything is well tightened and done it should role 12V on reset and 5V on working time.

Simply place a external fan with external supply to cool the box, don't play with wire inside box, if you novice

... have you tried a usb hd stick ?

this should be enough for recording

then, transfer the content onto hd via pc

I agree with you my friend

It's very dangerous for someone without a basic knowledge over the electronics to do it.
He can easily make a mistake and damage his box.

If you don't know what you are doing with electronics it's better to avoid to do it.

You can also trying to set the decoder on 4 small cilinders so that air can circulate below it, plus use an usb cooler pad and you will be able to cool it down without opening the box.

You could also try minimise the heat coming from the hdd. 5400 rpm produces less heat than 7200 rpm for example. Also set picons, epg and even timeshift to a usb stick could also minimise the run time of the hdd.

You can use a passive heatsink on a CPU or HDD.

My DM 800 in HD channels freezes after 2 hours of hard work, sometimes less time depends . . . Normal channel it's no problem!
